Alma 74 Spring Arbor 69   Overtime

Alma pulls it out after trailing by 4 early in OT.  Pretty balanced effort from the Scots.

If you wrote a novel about this one you might title it:  The Mysterious Case of the Disappearing 2-3 Zone.   First half Alma plays all zone, 25 SAU points 12 point lead, second half almost all man, 40 SAU points tie game going to OT.   After the Olivet/Hope/Alma match-ups with Spring Arbor the best conclusion to draw is Hope's 2-3 zone sucks.

Alma attempted its first free-throws of the game with 2:27 left to play.   Missed them both which was key in giving Spring Arbor a chance to tie the game and send it to OT.  Both teams had good looks to win in regulation but it was not to be.

SAU mauled the Scots on the boards, Alma made up for it with 7 more triples to SAU's 3.

Last night:
Trine 82 Mt. Vernon Nazarene 65
MVN drops to 7-7 all of their wins are jaw dropping awful

Ian Jackson 34, Scott Rogers 23

Even in the first half there were times where I wondered where the zone went. It appeared to be coming after they made baskets but in the second half there wasn't as much zone even then. They did go back to the 2-3 late and it did slow SAU down a little. After a while they were finding a way to get the ball to Bellamy on the Backdoor. I don't believe Coach Hargraves is that big on zone defense either.

Anyways it was a good win for the Scots though. And hopefully they can knock off cornerstone here in a few days too

Thinking about it, another reason for a possible switch out of zone could have been that early #22 for SAU really hurt the Scots bigtime down low, but Spring Arbor really didn't go to him as much in the second half and overtime.  I don't really know why not, he seemed like a really solid guy against Alma as far as size matchup went.

Bethany 63 Olivet 59

After Olivet spotted Bethany 11 points and trailed by as many as 17, I gave up on this one.  Olivet fought back and actually led with a few minutes to play.  Turnovers down the stretch did them in.

Not a bad result considering how this game went last year.  Bethany is one of 2 or 3 teams from PAC that will be vying for the NCAA bid.

Looking past the Jan. 3rd matchup with Adrian would be a mistake for Calvin.
Adrian's win over Wooster probably wasn't a fluke.

Three games tonight
Northwestern Ohio at Adrian, 7 p.m.
Trine at Franklin, Ind., 7 p.m.
Olivet at Baldwin Wallace, Ohio, 7:30 p.m.

NW Ohio is a middle of the WHAC team at the moment that somehow lost to Lawrence Tech.  They're on a 4 game winning streak.  Its been 2 weeks since Adrian played a game.

Trine/Franklin could be a good one, they've played the last 4 years with each game being pretty close

12  Franklin 82 Trine 75
11  Franklin 89 Trine 86 OT
10  Trine 82 Franklin 75
09  Trine 73 Franklin 68

Olivet/Baldwin-Wallace, score comparison with Alma maybe

Albion roster has Ridgell, Harville, Zavadil removed on both old website and on new gobrits.com site (including the individual headshots on new site).  If this is a permament removal it would be a tough loss for the Brittons as Ridgell and Harville are two of their top three scorers.  Guess we will see how this affects team chemistry and success in the North Park game on Tuesday and the Spring Arbor game on Thursday.  Also, have heard that Kolin Kazen will not play this season after all

I'll proactively address this one:
I guarantee that no one is "looking past" Adrian.  Adrian is undefeated and nationally ranked.  Not to mention, they have gotten our attention quite adequately in the past few years--their success is nothing new and anyone who's had a chance to personally observe the disciplined nature of Coach White's teams will understand that this success is very repeatable.  If Adrian wins the 1/3/13 game it will not be because they snuck up on anyone, and a Calvin loss in that game should not be used as evidence that somehow KVS did not get the team "up" for the game.

HCG.  My post was in response to this one which mentions Hope/Calvin.  Nothing more, and nothing less. :)

Adrian has an addition to their roster.  (I think can't remember him being there before)

Brandon Romain, the well traveled Brooklyn, NY native has played for West Chester Community College, Post University and Detroit Mercy.

Adrian 71 Northwest Ohio 68

Bulldogs hang on for the win, Brandon Romaine with 14 in his debut.  The usually stifling defense was not so stifling tonight.

Franklin 69  Trine 62

Franklin led by double digits too long to call this one close and yet it was 5 points with 3 to play.  Ian Jackson held to just 5

sac

Bald-Wally 94 Olivet 79

Olivet fell way behind again early.  Garner Small held to 5 points.  Tonight was 'MIAA leading scorers held to 5 points night'

BW went a little crazy from behind the arc 14-23........I'll be taking a valium and heading off to bed now.
