And1- I asked the other day to no avail about Snuggs.  My guess is health, he has an old mans back (no disrespect to anyone).  As also previously mentioned, NVA simply isn't very good, even in the fleeting moments he stays out of foul trouble.  Maybe MN IS spending the trip working on player development for his bench or........So, so close on my starting 5 guess nearing conference play.

Just saw the box score, wow.....

Just spoke with someone close to situation to find out about PT for one individual in particular ...wow, wow,wow

Rhodes 89 Kalamazoo 68, Mark Ghafari with 22.  That concludes Kzoo's non-conference schedule at 3-8.  Last to start, first to finish.

The league went 4-8 for the week and sits perilously at 40-35 with 12 to play.
In-region the league went 1-5 and drops to 22-24 with 8 to go and a possibility of a 9th game.

No games until next Fri/Sat/Sun

These are the remaining in-region games to be played, probably need 6 to finish above .500

I hear Snuggs health is not the issue, word is that the coach is trying to shake things up and several players - not just those that appear to be underperforming - are confused and unhappy.

This from this morning's GR Press:

"After going 5 of 8 , [Michigan's Nik Stauskas] now is the top-ranked outside shooter in America at 55.7 percent from 3-point range."

Actually, that's DI.  Colton Overway is currently shooting 58% of his 3's for the season.  Although he may not be a David Krombeen or Steve Cramer when going one-on-one with the clocking winding down, he's having a terrific year, and seems to have grown as a player, and shooter, during his years at Hope.   Moreover, he has a 2 to 1 assist to turnover ratio . . . all in all a great year so far.

My understanding--reported also in the IWU/Hope discussion on the CCIW board--is that Nate S. does have a back issue that limited his playing time.  Given that the rest of the team showed its potential against IWU, I still hope for good things, if Nate and Steve W. can both become pain-free.

The head coach speaks in the paper of "shaking the line up"'and "looking for energy", etc...copy and paster alert"!!!

EVERYONE knows Nate has had back issues for years.  That it is now making the CCIW board now means little.

Your leader, hope fans, conceded, in print, that things were not working.....insert your own hypotheticals.  The fact that this is the same program that buried their head in the sand for several months about PB's situation, speaks volumes about how obvious this current issue is.

I still hope for good things as well, this team has the talent to win the league.  All I can say is that Hope students that are friends with players say Snuggerud's back was NOT responsible for his lack of PT in the IWU game.  And I would think the coach would have mentioned it in the paper to explain why Snuggs was missing, maybe thrown him a bone liked "we sure did miss Snuggerud out there".  But I didn't see anything like that, just comments about shaking things up.  Same sources have talked of the unhappiness and confusion among several players that I mentioned earlier.  Could it be wrong?  Sure, but I doubt it.

Let's see if I got this right. :)
In March Snuggerud scores 40 points against IWU.  It makes sense that IWU was going to key on  him last Sat.  Shake up the line up by not starting him, and build an 18 point lead.  What's not to like about that?  All I see is the new, less experienced guys not able to sustain the lead, but they never gave up either.
Frankly I am not falling for all the rumors about "issues" with the Dutch. :) :) :)
Put away the gurney, and cancel the Hospice care. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I don't think anyone is going to go 14-0 in the MIAA this year.
I read what MN said.  It sounds to me like he is willing to do whatever it takes to get his team some W's.  He did it last Sat., and he probably will do it again, and that just makes Hope that much more dangerous to play.

Though seldom heard in Knight worship, I'll offer a Christmas Eve "Amen" from across the aisle to those thoughts.  Hope has enough talent to win, and if "messages" are being sent by MN to specific players, now is the perfect time to do it.  The only time I saw Hope play was the Hope v. Cornerstone game earlier this year, and I remember thinking several times in the second half "I don't remember that guy playing in the first half."  Sounds like MN is continuing to look for the right guys/combos and isn't afraid to "experiment".  I will be surprised if he doesn't settle reasonably soon on his core guys--if the experimentation continues much past the first quarter or so of the conference season, I'd be more inclined to at least look up the number for Hospice so I had it handy if needed ;)

If I were a Hope fan, I'd be quite optimistic about the Freshman.  I really like the Gardner kid--looks like the PG of the future.  Benson is solid already and could be really good, and Eidson is a great competitor--tough nosed kid with some skill who will compete hard on both ends of the floor.

Merry Christmas all!

I caught the Calvin vs Cornerstone JV game tonight. Cornerstone prevailed in a pretty entertaining game 97-95.  On the bright side, Austin Parks, a FR combo guard from Niles, led Calvin with 26, including 8 3's, the majority of which were from NBA distance.  Great looking stroke, heady player, and solid defender.  Struggled some against ball pressure--will have to tighten that up if he's a future PG.  Eric Brower, a 6-7 FR  post from Unity Christian, also looked good.  He's not the most athletic post you'll see--but he posted well, finished around the basket with both hands, and was a fundamentally solid defender/rebounder. He is also an excellent passer--made great decisions on when to kick out to his teammates for some wide open 3's.  Jordan Daley, a 2/3, was at his best either slashing to the basket or posting up--gave Cornerstone trouble with some excellent post moves.  Has a ways to go defensively--could not stay in front of Luke Morrison, Cornerstone's most impressive freshman who led all scorers with 28.  The difference in the game was turnovers--Calvin's backcourt had a pile of turnovers that led to a slew of transition baskets/free throw opportunities for CU.
Apparently this was not an anomaly, but indicative of some consistently fine play--Calvin fans should not be surprised to see Mr. Parks joining the varsity soon, maybe as early as this coming weekend.  Perhaps the Calvin coaching staff has noted oldknight's previously stated concern about the lack of a consistent 3-ball threat and is taking action to address the deficit? They probably didn't want to run the risk of being on the receiving end of one of oldknight's now (in)famous depositions and took preemptive action ;) :o

I have Trine's Ian Jackson needing 43 points to reach 1,500 for his career.  He's already Trine's leading scorer since joining D3, he should finish about 6th on Trine's all-time scoring list.

Gregory Sager

It feels like he's scored half of them against NPU.
