Just under 3.5 hours till tip-off - still time to join the Pick 'Em contest (and the 26 others already playing).  Should be a very intersting night of basketball

Fairly enlightening article pertaining to the line-up shake up in today's Sentinel.  Definitely does not sound like an injury had anything to do with the benching of an All-MIAA and preseason All-American.  + karma for breaking this 2 weeks ago???  Alas, probably more deductions......

I believe this is the link to the article you mention:
http://www.hollandsentinel.com/sports/x1665856945/Hope-mens-basketball-eager-to-tip-off-MIAA-play

And here's a gem from the article that demonstrates the author doesn't know the difference between "at-large" and the AQ.

The Flying Dutchmen will need an at-large berth to extend their run of consecutive postseason appearances to a school-record eight.

Also, what is a 'three-repeat'? Is that 3x2, six in a row?

In the words of the immortal Bill Swerski's Superfans, he probably should have used the phrase "I predict a minimum 8-peat" . Hopefully I'm not the only one chuckling

And that just the tip of the iceberg in demonstrating Ali Babble's lack of knowledge or mastery of the English language.  In his "Team Breakdowns" on the same page he writes:  "The preseason favorite (Hope) in the league's coach poll seemingly has had more problems than wins this season.  They've already lost as many MIAA games at DeVos Fieldhouse as they have in a single season."  WAAAAAHHHHH?!  And this in an article ushering in the MIAA season?!  Or am I  missing something?

I suspect more and more posts are being made with mobile devices these days. I'm normally not one to pounce on spelling issues but even more so now, a spelling mistake could be an autocorrect or an errant finger.

I may have to watch my errant finger sitting in VanNoord tonight.

I assume he is referring to the regular season conference championship. Calvin won the regular season in 2009-10 and Hope has won it the last two years.

Easy, everyone.  Picking on the journalistic quality of the Sentinel is pretty much the message board equivalent of playing College of Faith in men's basketball.

But, on the plus side, Alan Babbit did satisfy the Snyder pet peeve (he used "berth" rather than the homonym "birth" when discussing the D3 tourney) and the Sager pet peeve:

QuoteThe slate has not been wiped clean for a 5-6 Hope College men's basketball team, but the part of the regular season that matters the most tips off tonight.

Occasional mistakes notwirthstanding, I suspect--in case Alan Babbitt is reading this board--that most of us appreciate it when a local paper and reporter covers DIII sports as faithfully as the Sentinel does ... and which the GR Press Lakeshore once did, but, sadly, more occasionally now.  I also appreciative their occasional featuring of players who have excelled, or reporting human interest stories.

Well said.  I completely agree.

Hate to sound pessimistic, but the story of the half for Calvin was turnovers. The first three possessions of the game resulted in turnovers, and the Knights finished the half with 9. The officials seem to be letting a lot of contact go under the basket, but I like it. Calvin is where you want to be after a half of basketball though; in a position to win the game in the second.

Adrian Bulldawg Alum

Adrian is doing their typical strong defense/suspect offense show.

Very frustrating watching Adrian make bad decisions on the fastbreak and having poor shot selection on offense.  Also, Brandon Romain seems to be struggling (just checked, and he's 0 for 5).  In fact, Adrian is shooting 30%, so it's a struggle all the way around.

Calvin has made some bad passes on the offensive end causing some unforced turnovers, so their not helping themselves either.  Hard to tell how this one's going to turn out.

ziggy

At the half it's Ian Jackson 20, Albion 19. Different games, but still.

Hope struggling to contain Alma in 1st half, actually lucky to be within seven points.

Alma 16-30 for 53.3% and 6-13, 46.2% from three land (Jacob Murwaske is 4-4).

Hope 8-14 from FT line, 57.1%.  Guess the players missed Coach Neil's comment in the paper this morning.  Especially, Billy Seiler who missed the first 4 and is currently 0-4.

Colton Overway with 8 rebounds at half and his partner Ben Gardner with 11 points to keep Hope in it.

Snuggs played 10 minutes and had 8 points (but, no he did not start)
