This may be early to say... but you are probably dreaming if you think the MIAA is getting three teams. What you are not considering, I suspect, is the conference tournament. That is going to be another loss for all but one team. Should Calvin win the tourney, I could see maybe another team getting in since both Hope and Albion would have another loss in their record. Should Hope or Albion win the tourney, there is a chance at a third, but still Hope or Albion would have another loss on their record... this is of course assuming they don't lose more than one game between now and then and with each team playing each other... that is doubtful as well.

If you're going to admonish people for not 'understanding' their own league and how it relates to their own region at least get the teams right. :)

I'm sorry... I am not sure how in the world I got Albion on my mind... instead of Adrian... guh.

As for "admonish"... that wasn't what I was doing... I was just adding my input. I think it is a dream :)

No one predicted it to happen, but it is possible.

So is the Ravens winning the Super Bowl, but I'm guessing you're still going to watch them.

I think there is a better chance of the Ravens winning the Super Bowl since they are IN the playoffs then three teams from the MIAC getting into the NCAA tournament considering the W/L records already with a little less than half the season remaining :). (Remember the season the Ravens won the Super Bowl? They didn't look so hot... granted they are playing in a very cold Denver... so my expectations are not that high :)).

You guys have to stop giving D-Mac so much flacco about his mistakes when it's obvious that he's making them only because he's still ravenously following the NFL playoffs.

You're rice about that. It just suggs when outsiders debate against points that aren't even being made. Should we try to clarify oher just move on? Everything should makes sense if the time is taken to reed the whole discussion.

It's a pitta that you guys find it necessary to pick on D-Mac so much. Yanda nother thing, for those of you Lions fans who feel boldin enough to heap scorn upon D-Mac: Have you not even one graham of sympathy for the pressure a fan goes through when his team is in the playoffs?

OK, time for me to stop being a leach on your board.

Hey, leave me out of this discussion. It's been a long day for d-mac and I'm not the one who Dossed him when he had a brain cramp. Dave was undoubtedly trying to post on the MIAA board while simultaneously read a book on his Kindle.

Just ran through some preliminary numbers -- so complete accuracy is suspect -- but if Adrian were to win all non-Calvin/Hope games (and lose every Calvin/Hope game) then lose again to Hope in the MIAA semifinals, they'd end up with something like a .762 WP and a .511 SOS (and a win over likely-in-the-tournament Wooster).

If Hope were to go 1-2 versus Adrian down the stretch, beat Adrian in the MIAA semifinals, then lose to Calvin in the finals, they'd have something like a .714 WP and a .590 SOS. (IWU got in with a .708 WP and .540 SOS last year).

(Not saying that a Trine or Alma or Albion won't win a game against one of these, but the best chance that three make it is if this doesn't happen.)

Last year after the Pool C selection process I projected how the 19-round process played out.  See reply #3866, from Feb 27, 2012...

http://www.d3boards.com/index.php?topic=4232.3855

It's a best guess but probably pretty close.

With an in-region winning % in the low-.700's, I think it's fair to say you need a bunch of "results vs regionally ranked" -- both games played and some wins.  For example, last year IWU had 9 games vs regionally ranked, including 3 wins.

Hope has played 3 games so far against teams that are likely to be regionally ranked at some point in the process - North Central, Wheaton, and Adrian - with a 1-2 record in those game.  The Dutchmen will play 3 more in the regular season (@ Adrian, @ Calvin, vs Calvin) - that's 6.  And could play two more in the MIAA tournament.  Hope could have a, say, 4-4 record vs regionally ranked.  That total of 8 would be very good, as would the 4 wins.

A key thing here in this hypothetical Hope Pool C discussion is for Adrian and Calvin to both be regionally ranked.  Hope needs those games played and hypothetical wins in their resume.  Last year, in the final regional poll Augustana jumped into the bottom of the Midwest rankings and it gave IWU another 2 games played (and 1 win) vs regionally ranked.  It helped.

Another thing that helped IWU last year was two out-of-region ("secondary criteria") wins over Pool A teams over the holidays.  Wins over Bethany and Staten Island really helped the Titans get in.  Hope's loss to IWU in Florida could hurt in this regard if it comes to that, and if IWU has a good CCIW season.  Or heck, it could really hurt if IWU and Hope are sitting there on the bubble together at round 19!

Based on Hope's potential numbers (in-region winning %/SOS/results vs RR), I don't think the Pool C discussion is crazy.  I mean, it's a longshot...but not crazy.

(Too bad Kindle was released from the team this week ... ;))

Side note - the Hope/Calvin rivalry will be examined tonight on Hoopsville - though chatting with both women's coaches this time.
