My 2 cents and absolutely nothing revolutionary....I think this game is much more important for Calvin than Hope for the simple fact that Calvin, if I recall, has more players on its roster with " The Rivalry" experience, especially, if Snuggs is not a factor.  The recent trend is for him to play when the game is tight, so expect to see him in full force tonight.
Calvin wins if-
Snickers stays out of foul trouble, remains composed, doesnt feel obligated to do it all himself (unless the time comes when he HAS to)
Calvin controls the paint not only in rebounds but establishes some interior scoring
Guards needs to wear Overway down, force some turnovers, poor decisions and contested shots
Hope shoots 60ish from line, not 80ish

Hope wins if-
Snuggs scores 14+ points AND asserts himself on the glass.  If he does both, he'll stay on the floor.  He can score that in mere minutes but they need more both on the glass and on D
Eidson snaps out of mini slump...a breakaway layup or ft's right away to break the tension
They shoot 80ish from line not 50-60ish in abundance
Who's the unsung hero......deMaagd, holwerda, Neil...who's going to give the unexpected 8-12 points

I could keep it really simple and say whomever shoots it better from behind the arc but that would be too easy

After looking at the MIAA pick 'em site, I am a little surprised at the extent to which the predictions reflect belief in the favorite team.  There are predictions all the way from a 4 for a Hope win and a 4 for a Calvin win.  That is probably the way it should be with strong belief in our own teams.

At this moment, the pick 'ems look like this:

Hope - 7 - average points 1.6
Calvin - 21 - average points 1.9

Our confidence point distribution suggests we as a group give Calvin a 63% chance to win. Massey says 72% (not an extreme difference).

Also, this could be the first week we disagree with Massy on a likely winner WE give Albion a 66% chance to beat Kalamazoo, but Massey likes the Hornets 56% to 44%.

If I recall correctly, Kzoo has a fairly lengthy losing streak to Albion.  Maybe even as many as 20 games.

11 in a row and 20 of 21. Kalamazoo won in 2008, but hadn't won since January of '03 before that.

OSU -- Urban Meyer flew into Grand Rapids yesterday to meet with Harris (perhaps, others, too; I don't know). I'm sure Hope is a close 2nd or possibly 3rd on his list.

Committed but looking. How special. I think I'll try that one out on Mrs. OldKnight on the way to VNA. We'll see how that works out. If board regulars who attend don't see me in my usual spot tonight, feel free to stay until the final buzzer but I would appreciate it if you could divide up the territory and do a search on your way home. I suggest you start with shallow graves.

That's fantastic.

Reminds me of, during the height of the Clinton/Lewinsky scandal, Dick Armey at a press conference. As resignation was being discussed a reporter asked Armey "If you were in the President's position..." and Armey immediately quipped "If I were, I'd be looking up from a pool of my own blood hearing my wife say 'How do I reload this thing?'"

You guys both crack me up!! Will ask CM to bring along a shovel and some good flashlights, and we will find you oldknight - rivalry or no rivalry

I don't know.  While I'd normally defend OK, and even hunt for him if lost, I'm afraid I might have to side with Mrs. OK on this one... 8-) :o ;D ;) :)

From bitter experience, I have found that to always be a very wise policy.

Calvin is shooting 62% from the field; Hope 21.7%!  If that doesn't change (A LOT) in the second half, the drive back to Holland will seem longer than a drive from Trine! :P

Calling tonight 'a really nice win' for Calvin is an understatement but they have to follow it up with similar efforts to close out the first half of MIAA play.

So I was wrong about the eight man rotation thing. Kind of.

Adrian Bulldawg Alum

Adrian defeats Alma 74 to 73 with a last second 3-pointer by Cody Barnes!

Good: -Eric Lewis scores 32 on 10 of 20 shooting and 11 of 16 from the FT line.
-Adam Meier (who I think is Adrian's big man with the way he uses his body inside) recorded a double-double with 15 points and 15 boards.
-Adrian dominated the boards 37 to 23.

Bad:   -Adrian committed 19 turnovers.  WAY too much when you are a ball control/defensive team.
-Adrian allowed 49% from the field and %50 from 3.  Maybe Alma was just on fire, but was it a lack of defense?
-Adrian led by 8 with 3 minutes late.  You have to be able to finish teams off.

I didn't see the game, so it's hard for me to go beyond stats, but I would love to hear from someone who may have seen the game.

How about the Dew Crew with chants of "you can't fill it?" I know the boys in orange and blue had a rough shooting night but that's harsh!
