Adrian at Calvin

Calvin won both meetings by 6 and 3, both were low possession grinding defensive kinds of games.  61 possessions/team in Grand Rapids, 54 possessions/team in Adrian.  Bryan Powell was the difference in both games

Offensively Adrian has been declining throughout the conference season, their only 'good' offensive games came against Albion/Alma/Kzoo, the 3 worst defenses in the league and all 3 similarly worse.

Adrian needs everyone healthy, Adam Meier hasn't played the last two, if he's not out there Adrian's chances to win go down significantly I think.  They already have little interior depth.  It will probably take a special effort for Adrian to win.

Trine at Hope

Hope won by 15 in Holland in a game that was basically two big runs, and by 9 in Angola where Hope threatened to run away but had the deficit to 2 with under 5 to play.

Dealing with Hope's interior has been Trine's problem where they've had trouble rebounding, keeping Hope away from the basket and staying out of foul trouble.  Ben Gardner has been terrific in both of these games with 15 and 18, while Trine has held Alex Eidson to 2-15 shooting.

I presume Scott Rogers will be back and 100% for Trine, he was a non-factor in Angola recovering from the flu.  Todd Watkins and Jared Holmquist had pretty good games themselves last Saturday offensively, with Rogers back they should have some good interior play tonight.  The real key is whether Hope can continue their good fortune in defending Ian Jackson.

Still not happy I don't get to see both of these games in one location.

btw, leaving Angola Saturday I tuned into the Trine women's broadcast and during a timeout they were discussing the men's team playing Hope in the tournament.  And I quote  "Well, its really hard to beat a team 3 times in one season"

So we have that going for us in both games tonight. :)
Enjoy!

Adrian Bulldawg Alum

Bulldogs face a huge challenge tonight vs. a better Calvin team.

Adrian will need 3 things to win:
1. Adam Meier - Calvin is much bigger as it is, and if they lack the 6'5" big guy, I think Calvin will have a field day in the paint.

2. A big + in the Turnover column - We know Adrian is going to have a high defensive intensity, but I think they need to create turnovers and at the same time, protect the ball.  Something around 15 to 5 would be good.

3. Lewis and Barnes to go for about 40.  I was going to say shoot very well from 3's, but I went with this.

Calvin is a big favorite in my opinion.  I know the last 2 games were win by only 6 and 3, but they seem to be teams going in opposite directions.  Hopefully Adrian comes to play and Calvin is a bit down, though I think the final score will be 60 to 50, Calvin...but...

GO BULLDOGS!!!

MIAA.org is no longer hosted on Hope's server like it was for many, many years. It's now on PrestoSports, so if you see the website down, you are see a rare thing!
