Also, miaa.org seems to be loading fine.

MIAA.org is no longer hosted on Hope's server like it was for many, many years. It's now on PrestoSports, so if you see the website down, you are see a rare thing!

Won't load for me on my IPad, usually works fine

Must be something with your IPad because it loads fine for me.

Glad it is not "my" IPad

Bulldogs face a huge challenge tonight vs. a better Calvin team.

Adrian will need 3 things to win:
1. Adam Meier - Calvin is much bigger as it is, and if they lack the 6'5" big guy, I think Calvin will have a field day in the paint.

2. A big + in the Turnover column - We know Adrian is going to have a high defensive intensity, but I think they need to create turnovers and at the same time, protect the ball.  Something around 15 to 5 would be good.

3. Lewis and Barnes to go for about 40.  I was going to say shoot very well from 3's, but I went with this.

Calvin is a big favorite in my opinion.  I know the last 2 games were win by only 6 and 3, but they seem to be teams going in opposite directions.  Hopefully Adrian comes to play and Calvin is a bit down, though I think the final score will be 60 to 50, Calvin...but...

GO BULLDOGS!!!

:-[ Adrian down 35 to 23 at the half.  Seems my 3 keys are not going well.

1.  No Adam Meier and Adrian can't do anything inside (offensively or defensively).

2.  Though Adrian is protecting the ball, they have only caused 4 turnovers.  If you can't be bigger, you need to be quicker and get some steals.

3.  Barnes and Lewis only combine for 10.

Watching the game, you can see Calvin really contesting Adrian's shots, but even when the Bulldogs are free for shots, they are horrendously off.  You can tell with all their shooting percentages...26% FG, 29% from 3, and a terrible 5 of 10 from the stripe.  A sad combo of a big Calvin team outplaying Adrian.

(And Calvin shooting 52% doesn't help either)

MAKE A COMEBACK PLEASE!

What's going on in Calvin right now is despicable!  They have given up...

Adrian inbounded a ball from underneath their hoop with 3 seconds on the shot clock.  An Adrian player (Gallant) got the ball, held it, made no move, after 2 seconds, passed it to a teammate who had 1 second, takes a dribble?!?  Neither was aware of time and/or situation.  That wasn't what made me upset though...

I first noticed it when an Adrian player made a bad pass up top and it went past him and it should've been just an over-and-back violation, but the Adrian guard started jogging and the Calvin player hustled, dove on the floor and got it, and then passed it to a teammate for (another) lay up.  I saw 2 other plays where Adrian players just gave up.  Instead of playing with pride, I saw gutlessness.

I don't say that lately.  I like Adrian,  I cheer for my alma matar, I like Mark White, but I saw what I saw.

Don't be to hard on your guys.  2 out of 3 games with Calvin they were in it to the end.  The problem with building your whole team around slowing it down and playing defense is it works great until you meet a team that has seen it before, and plays in sync instead of getting frustrated.   As good as the Adrian players may be it is really hard to give up that much height advantage to any team.

On the game side, Calvin (obviously) won 71 to 44.

Those terrible shooting stats that I wrote after the first half (26 FG, 29 Three's, 50 FT)  ACTUALLY went down (  :-\ ) in each category.  Some of this was due was to Calvin's strong defense, but as I said earlier, Adrian just couldn't hit shots.  I also thought that besides Lewis, Adrian couldn't offensively create good opportunities.

Looks like another Hope vs. Calvin MIAA championship game (yawn...  ;) )

Capital loses to Mount Union. Good, bad, or indifferent to Calvin/Hope?

Post Script: Mount Union is under .500 overall; exactly .500 in the conference.

Post Post Script: Mount Union has not one, but two losses to Adrian by a combined 25 points.

I think indifferent. Calvin and Hope are now (probably) effectively past them. Of course I've been wrong every time before.

Also, neither Calvin nor Hope look (at this point) to have much of a chance at a Pool C.

Why is Logan Neil always the first player off the bench for Hope?  ???

Given the earlier posts about the (lack of) quality officiating at both the college and high school levels, please tell me that you aren't complaining about having a guy who's doing a ton of Big Ten games doing a DIII game?!

I'll assume this is a good natured jab at a guy who transferred from Hope to Calvin about 30 years ago and not a belief that he (or anyone else who's officiating at a high level for that matter) would somehow compromise a huge investment of time to be a top flight official and be biased against a team they have been assigned to officiate...

MIAA is indeed a Presto site, not hosted on Hope servers any longer.

With Hope due for an SOS boost after playing Calvin, and another game versus a regionally ranked, I think they'll be able to jump into the #6 (or higher) spot for the final non-public ranking. Marietta could conceivably jump back in by winning the OAC tournament, but they won't get an SOS boost from Mount Union nor will it be a game versus a regionally ranked. Hope being ranked would give Calvin a boost of three games played versus a regionally ranked opponent.

I don't think there are any other GL Region teams that could factor in, assuming that Capital's loss is enough to knock them behind Hope (and I don't see how it isn't).

Calvin played vey well tonight.  Their defense very good all night.  I  agree with ABA that Adrian lost some of their competiveness in the second half.  Although. the over and back play he referred to was not a smart play by Mickey De Vries, it did turn out well for Calvin.

Tyler Dykstra, Tyler Kruis, Dan Stout, and Jordan Brink played well offensively.  Snikker only 5 points on 2-4 shooting, but 6 assists and 0 turnovers.  Calvin only 7 turnovers on the night.

A good team win tonight.
