Hope and Calvin definitely would not play a championship game on a Sunday. But as Dave noted, that contingency was already planned for.

Comparative scores with common opponents shows RH had similar score lines to Calvin.
http://www.heartlandconf.org/sports/mbkb/2012-13/files/rhit.htm

Opponent     Calvin      Rose-Hulman
Wabash       neut   27   -      -
Wabash       -      -    road   24
Anderson     home   42   home   29
Anderson     -      -    road   31
Manchester   road   24   road   18
Manchester   -      -    home   2

RHIT, on average, has played at a slower pace, so taking away 2-4 points from Calvin's margins might put them more on the same level.

Really happy to see Bryan Powell honored as a first-teamer. I though his contributions to Calvin were largely underrated in the heat of the battle but he obviously earned the honor with a fine season.

IMHO..... If you(Jackson) average almost 36 minutes per game in league play vs 25 for Snikkers...I guess you will score more points.  Tom still out-rebounded him with only 25 min of PT.  Tom was 3x 1st team also....PLUS his team took 1st place this year.  He happens to be on a team that has a number of players that can score.  Whatever.... I think Tommy got snubbed.  Its not right.

Maybe, but it's also not wrong.

As for the difference in minutes played, perhaps that is an indication of one's value...

It's not that I'm arguing for Ian Jackson or against Tom Snikkers - both had fine seasons. Obviously I would always love to see a Calvin player honored as MVP. But this year there was no clear-cut favorite and it wasn't due to a wealth of great options.

The MVP voting doesn't take into factor previous seasons of a player.  Just the current season.

Just a heads up. If you're going to make a plug for someone on the boards, it's usually best to not have an email address with the same last name. I'd expect that out of someone like wiz but not a new board member.

Congrats to Ian Jackson on a great season and career.  I hope Tom has no regrets--I've maintained all year that his unselfishness has been invaluable to the Knights' success this year.  He could have averaged 20 ppg if he wanted to, and probably won MVP, but the team would have suffered and may not still be playing.

This may be silly for an MVP discussion, but I believe that just as crucial for Calvin's success this year is guys like Matt DeBoer, Jordan Mast, and Mitch Vallie accepting their reduced roles graciously and giving 100% when they had the opportunity to play.  Also, Mickey DeVries and Bryan Powell willing to come off the bench and work hard, night after night.  Here is Bryan Powell, former starter, senior, and 1st team all-MIAA, and never got to hear his name announced in the starting lineup (except for a couple of games when Brink had his head injury).  I never visibly saw any ego on any of these guys and this team's success is a huge testament to their character, and to KVS for providing leadership, setting expectations, and juggling the personalities and playing time.

Regarding all-MIAA teams, I'd have put Scott Rogers on the first team in lieu of Snuggerud.  Someone on this board made the suggestion that Ben Gardner should get consideration for MVP.  I wouldn't go that far, but including Gardner on at least the 2nd team (maybe in lieu of Snuggs, again) would have been well-deserved.

Snubbed would be not making first team.  I am not even sure he was Calvin's MVP.  From what I saw on the court, that would go to either Reitema or Powell.

Brandon Krause, Alma (junior from Sanford/Meridian HS)

This one surprised me a little only because I figured he wouldn't get recognized.  I was pretty impressed with him in the game I saw at Alma and I wondered to myself at the time where in the MIAA pecking order of PG's he fell.   I still had him behind Rietema and Overway.   It's not often you see a teams 3rd leading scorer picked ahead of the first two.  He did end up their #2 scorer in league play though.

Olivet's Blake Krum over Garner Small----Small was a shoe-in until his late season fade, but its nice to see others recognized the same things I did and that's that Blake Krum just plays harder than most people on the court.

Fourth time in five years the MVP didn't win the MIAA Championship.

Interesting that they choose to go with 1st, and 2nd team, and expanded the # of people honored.  I thought it was fitting, and gracious to honor Mr. Overway.
Over the years the number of players picked as All MIAA has varied,  but this is the first time for 1st, and 2nd team designation.

It always seemed like every year a player or two was left out based on numbers, and this sure helps make the selection process easier.  For example, Kruis from Calvin is a good pick on 2nd team, but not quite good enough to justify selection under the previous 8 player format.

They've always done a second team, they reduced it from 8 on each team a few years ago.

You may very well be right about that, but the MIAA site under All MIAA team is only showing 6 or 8 picks for last several years, and no year going back to 1931  shows anyone designated as 2nd team.

They only list the first team.

Sheesh, can't believe they've picking only 6 for 6 years now, time flies.  That change felt like yesterday.
