Couple of MIAA recruiting tidbits heard recently:
Cody Stuive, a 6'6" forward from Hudsonville, appears to be headed to either Calvin or Hope.  Left-handed, long, Tyler Dykstra type body, nice player.  Be nice to break the Hudsonville to Hope pipeline....
Alma is recruiting Tanner Opple and Matt Stone, both guards, also from Hudsonville.  Opple is more a pure 1, while Stone would fall into the combo guard category.

speaking of Cody Stuive, Monday's game tying 'Christian Laetner moment' for Hudsonville which they went on to win in OT.......(you have to endure the add).

Hudsonville lost by 2 to Muskegon tonight, Muskegon plays GR Christian in the QFinal way over here in Lansing.

CALVIN KNIGHT SPORTS REPORT FOR MARCH 11, 2013

Fan Bus for Calvin Men's Basketball NCAA III Tournament Trip Planned;
Calvin Holds Lead in Commissioner's Cup Standings

MEN'S BASKETBALL
(from the Calvin alumni office)

Knights Fans,
We're trying to bring a home court advantage to St. Thomas with a fan bus! The Tommies (ranked #1) will have good fan support. Show your Maroon and Gold spirit by coming to the game with us! Your costs will include a bus ride to the game, a ticket, pizza reception post-game and hotel.

Here's the breakdown:
-$82 per person for the bus ride
-Cost of the game ticket
-$100 for a hotel room (multiple people can stay in a room). We will stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Woodbury (off of I-94 about 20 minutes east of St. Thomas).
-FREE post-game pizza reception
The bus will stop for other meals. You will be responsible for these costs.

*Please note that in order for the bus run we need it full. Our deadline is Thursday at noon! If it is not full, we will have to cancel. If you're interested please call the alumni office at 616-526-6142.

The fan bus is officially making the trip. There are still some spots left so call the alumni office if interested.

I read what the GR Press had to say about St. Thomas.  Just curious if anyone has seen them play or has any insights into their team beyond what that article tells us.

I think it would make more sense to post this question in the MIAC room than here. You're a lot more likely to get an answer over there.

Just taking a look at the Tommie's roster and minutes breakdown, if its going to be a possession game they will need to really work for the good shot (which from the stats looks like they do consistently). Hannon is really going to have his work cut out for him. Listed at 6-7, he's going to be right in the thick of it with Kruis, Dykstra, Stout and Devries. I wouldn't mind seeing Stout and Kruis on the floor at the same time if the game allows for it and maybe go with the big lineup of Tommy at the 2 and Brink at the 1. ST only has 1 other player above 6-5 averaging more than 5 minutes a game. Either way, I feel like this one is going to be a barn burner

I suspect you might see Josh Pella if the Calvin bigs are as effective as you are predicting.  He's not 6-9, but he's the strongest guy on the floor.  It seems more likely that Calvin will need Rietema to play 30 minutes to handle the pressure.

Who would win in a head-to-head game: '05 Calvin or '13 Calvin?

I'm leaning toward this year's team right now.

Depends on whether it's at Knollcrest or Van Noord.

I would have to go with '05 Calvin as Aultman would give this team fits and they had more of a consistent 3 point threat (Draayer).  I know '05 Calvin didn't win the regular season title, but they also probably had  the best NON-Calvin/Hope team (Albion) in many years that season to face.

If Calvin beats St. Thomas on Saturday, I may change my mind, though.  Either way, Lets go Knights!

Both teams proved they could win on the road.

Ditka could beat both of those teams all by himself!
