Some good news if you're a Calvin fan.  I heard from a reliable source recently that Calvin Christian's Brad Visser is strongly considering Calvin College as a school to play collegiate basketball at.  I heard it is down between Calvin, GVSU, and Wayne St.  That would be a big get for Calvin if he is to go there.  I think he could make an immediate impact next season and help fill the void of some of the guards Calvin are losing to graduation, and be a legit pure scorer at this level.  We shall see, though.

If Visser is looking for his best opportunity to play as a freshmen, Calvin should be his first choice. I'm not even sure he is likely to get a scholarship from a D2. The game program I saw this year listed him at 6'3" which I think is too generous, but he probably weighs in at a buck sixty and would get bounced around a lot at the D2 level of competition. The kid is a phenomenal shooter though, is quick and athletic, and would be a very good pickup for the Knights. Could play either the point or two guard spot. He was called on to shoot a lot on his high school team but he can penetrate and dish if asked. Reminds me a lot of Bryan Powell, has the same swagger, but with a fundamentally sounder shot I think. When he goes up he always seems to be square to the basket. He would no doubt be the object of a KVS footstomp or two as he learned Calvin's defensive system but Brad has long arms, can be very disruptive of passing lanes and has the tools to be an excellent defender if he dedicates himself to the task.

Ferris, I think, is at the top of Brad's list; I didn't know/think he was even considering Wayne State, but these things seem to change faster than I can keep up with....

FWIW, I think it's between Ferris and Calvin right now -- until something else changes/comes along/etc.

Update: Confirmed, Brad is NOT considering Wayne State; is considering Ferris, GVSU, and Calvin.

All four of the Class A Quarters were decided by 5 points or less...2, 3, 5 and 4 to be exact.   Nine of the 16 QF games through the four divisions were decided by 5 points or less

He is such a lightning rod. I especially like how he can play both off-guard and point guard but finds a way to score at both. One problem is that he gets a lot of high school fouls called that wouldn't get called in college-ball.

The Romulus-Pershing game would have been a great game to see.

I headed over to Middleville to watch the Godwin/Stevensville quarterfinal. I believe it's the first time I have been in that gym since my daughters played and their team defeated sac's high school alma mater in a regional final. Sorry about that sac but there are good memories of that gym for me. I got my first look at a couple of players from Stevensville who have been mentioned on this board as MIAA targets--6'6" Keith Brushwyler and 6'7" Michael Welch. A very tall Stevensville club took on a lightning fast Godwin Heights quintet. Lightning fast won. Welch and Brushwyler are both MIAA caliber players and I would be happy to see either one—or both—in maroon and gold. Who you like better depends on what qualities you find most important. Brushwyler doesn't shoot outside of six feet at all, is a lousy free throw shooter, but is strong and aggressive in going to the hoop. He demands a lot of attention from the defense when he has the ball in his hands. A sort of left handed version of Snuggerud (even looks like him) with better footspeed but without Nate's mid range shot. On second thought, Michael McClary might be a better comparison to Brushwyler's game though McClary's jumper was pretty reliable. Welch was mostly asked to play on the perimeter for the Lancers, is more versatile, handles the ball well, shoots better than Brushwyler and looks to be a good rebounder. Welch was asked to help out on the press and he did it well. Brushwyler currently has the edge over his teammate but Welch may have more upside. Lakeshore has a third frontline player—6'3" Harold Wiggins—who might be the most college ready player on the Lakeshore team. Wonder where he might be going?

I would like to see Visser's teammate, Brandon Geels, show up at Calvin in the fall also.

It'd be quite impressive if Grand Rapids Christian were to win the state finals in basketball, completing the one year trifecta in winning state titles in baseball, football,  and then basketball.  I realize they have a VERY tough match-up in the semi-finals, though.

Do you think they have a recruiting budget?
