FYI--Rutgers coach fired
Not new (although new developments) and not directly MIAA related (sorry), but certainly the issue of which the article speaks would be of concern to any college basketball fan.

Here's a link to the NYT article: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/04/04/sports/ncaabasketball/rutgers-fires-basketball-coach-after-video-surfaces.html?pagewanted=all&_r=1&;

I never heard of Zipperhead being a racial term.  My brother used to use it to refer to bad drivers, since they would unzip their head and take their brain out before they got behind the wheel.

I think the "little black" portion may have triggerred something for older folks, as there used to be an extremely racist character (and even a restaurant that took his name), "little black Sambo."

It's already been too long without D3 basketball.  I heard something about a D3 games this Sunday, must be some kind of exhibition game, sicne the season has been over for such a long time now.

The dynasty cracking?

The Calvin men's tennis team broke Kalamazoo's dual meet winning streak against MIAA opponents at 55 Wednesday with a 6-3 victory in Grand Rapids.

The Knights won four of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches in handing the Hornets their first league loss since 2003, when Hope defeated Kalamazoo 7-2. It was only the third league loss for Kalamazoo in 460 contests dual meets dating back to 1936.

Pretty amazing run - been wondering about the Kazoo team this year - currently 3-8.  Could someone else win the league?

That stat is an indictment of Adrian's offense, something that I talked a lot about throughout the year.  I think the players also have a hand in this, but the offense seemed so stale.  I know Adrian is a defensive minded team, but do they completely ignore the offense?

The Calvin site also notes that this is the first time Calvin has ever won a dual meet versus Kalamazoo.

Stat of the Day #2

18-8 is Adrian's best record since 1955.

In 1955 Kalamazoo College won its 17th consecutive men's tennis title..........and would go one to win the next 57

Tigers oddity of the day:

The eighth inning ended when Prince Fielder was caught stealing.

Prince?  Trying to steal??!! :o ;D

Fortunately, Benoit got the Yankees 1,2,3 in the ninth, and the Tigers won 8-4. :)

Probably just a blown hit-and-run.

Yeah, I suppose that's it.  Due to the d1 FF basketball game, I was just following the Tigers on livestats.  It was on a strike out with (at the time) just one out.

Still, even a hit-and-run with Prince seems odd - he ain't no Ricky Henderson! :o ;D

With any other Tiger, sure (Cabrera and Martinez might be iffy, but OK); but for Fielder, his dash times are measured with a calendar instead of a stopwatch!

It's not odd at all, Chuck. The hit-and-run is used on occasion with slow runners. The reason why is twofold: a) it's likely the only way that you can get them from first to third on a single; and b) because they're not base-stealing threats, the defense is far less likely to call for a pitchout to nullify the hit-and-run.
