Colton Overway one of ten players receiving a Good Works award during haltime of the NCAA semifinal game. He was just on national tv!!

Go Hope!
I was wondering why he was out there!!! Good to see a local player achieve that honor.

I hope he is a Michigan fan.

Hail yes he is.

Mr. Ypsi

I was getting very pessimistic when Michigan kept missing FTs down the stretch - but they did it!

And I feel much better about Monday after seeing what Wichita St. almost did.

I wouldn't downplay how much of a quality team WS was. They beat a number 1 and 2 seed earlier in the tourney. Louisville is going to be able to match up well when it comes to athleticism and guard play and have an experienced squad.

Good observation about Wichita State basketball, a program that has had a number of national level quality hoops teams spanning several decades. While Shocker basketball had a dead period during the 90's when it lost more than it won, the school has been able to field a number of Top 25 teams over the last 60 years. The program hasn't gotten a lot of notoriety, in part due to the Missouri Valley Conference's mid-major status, and in part due to the fact that it plays second fiddle to the big brother in its state, the Kansas Jayhawks--somewhat like Louisville's relationship to Kentucky Wildcat hoops. But when Ralph Miller (who later coached at Iowa and then Oregon State) showed up in Wichita in the early 50's, Wichita State teams became consistent winners and it has mostly kept that tradition. The school was ahead of the curve in recruiting black athletes and I am sure that history helped them over the decades. The school has also been a power in baseball over the years, including one national championship. WSU was the first D-1 school to hire a black head coach--Willie Jeffries in football in 1979. Also, Bill Parcells was a linebacker for the Shockers. When I was in grad school at Drake, I spent many an evening at Veteran's Auditorium in Des Moines avoiding my studies and watching MoValley  basketball. My favorites were the great Gene Smithson led teams that featured NBA players like Cliff Levingston, Antoine Carr, Xavier McDaniel, and Greg Dreiling. Those teams were dynamite, and could play with anyone in the country.

I'm very familiar with Wichita State.  I grew up in Peoria, home of Mo Val member Bradley.  Back then, Cincinnati and Louisville were also Valley teams - seeing such players as Oscar Robertson and Wes Unseld in the old fieldhouse was quite a treat. :)

I have a picture of me, circa 1978, in a Wichita State t-shirt my uncle gave me.  If I can find and scan I might just post that sucker.

In the meantime......tragedy struck in the Georgia Dome last night as Otto the Orange (and a cheerleader) were taken out by a sniper.  No one took notice because it occurred right around the time everyone remembered Jordan Morgan still plays for Michigan.

Calvin finishes the season #4 in the final Massey Ratings.

Calvin #7

I would have flipped North Central and St. Thomas but no surprises to me in the top four.

I wrote previously that I expected Calvin to finish in the top ten, potentially as high as number five. That's exactly what happened although I don't quite buy Williams and Middlebury finishing ahead of the Knights. Both made it to Salem but I don't see anything on their resume to suggest the gap between those two and Calvin is warranted.

Was that Boeheim top center? (looks like him, but odd location for a head coach)

Whoever it was looks like he took a headshot as well.

No its not Boeheim, Jim's reaction was a little more subdued.  Something like "damnit now someone's going to ask me if I'm coming back next year in about 20 minutes."

The first half of the Michigan/Louisville game was phenomenal. Too bad the refs aren't up to the task.

Have we ever had a president named Spike?
