I have to say, this is an extraordinarily generous policy. Offhand I don't know of another school that does that.

Yes, so stay away from the little brother, Tyler 6-7 SF who was a sophomore this past season.  It appears he is "on the 2015 radar" for the Hoosiers...don't need to add the Flying Dutchmen too.

Thanks.

Counsel would be pleased to draft a non-compete agreement between the two schools that complies with Michigan law . . . . for a modest fee of course

Harris commits to UM. Not that he ever considered Calvin, but I wonder if Calvin's adding football couldn't bring in a basketball recruit every now and then.... Harris certainly was the only athlete to consider playing basketball and football in college--although I think he made the right decision to focus on football.

In my experience (which is limited, although first-hand), most schools offer whatever they are financially able to support.  Some offer free tuition at their own institution only.  Paying half the tuition at another school is fairly common.  IWU's policy of paying up to three-quarters of another school's tuition is the most unusual part of the IWU offering.

The CIC program is only open to, I believe, two students from each college per year.

off the top of my head I can think of zero recent Hope basketball players who also played football.

The only two guys I can think of from other schools are JC Kruse at Albion and Mike Lewis at Adrian.  That's almost a decades worth of time.

Matt Brown of Alma was a 3 sport athlete his freshman year (football basketball baseball) but then just played football and basketball his remaining three years.

I didn't think there were many. To be honest, I threw that comment in because otherwise certain posters get all ticked that Harris's commitment has nothing to do with the MIAA -- which is true, I guess.

Even less likely and far more remote, there's always the possibility that a player switches from football to basketball (ie Brady at UM who switched from basketball to football).

Back to the "Hope has no reciprocation agreement with IWU" issue. It's my understanding that many colleges have DIII reciprocity (and it actually extends beyond DIII) with other schools. In order for this to work, a Calvin faculty member would send a kid to Hope IF a Hope faculty member's kid went to Calvin (or, there can be 3 school situations, or 4 school situations, etc.). My question is this: who makes the decision who gets the 'deal' if there are two Hope students that want to go to Calvin, but only one that want to go to Hope? Does the Hope student that signed up first get to go to Calvin? Is there a committee that makes the decision?

I'm pretty sure there is no tuition exchange agreement of any kind between Hope and Calvin, even on a one-to-one basis. The children of Hope faculty are eligible to attend only GLAC schools on tuition remission programs. I don't know of any such thing as "DIII reciprocity."

With regards to Harris, it may interest others who post here that he intends to enroll at Michigan early which means its unlikely he plays basketball for Grand Rapids Christian next season.

It was announced several weeks ago, even before Drake's semifinal game loss to Romulus at the Breslin, that he would forego his senior year of hoops.

Don't think I've seen it on here, but Chase's teammate at Rockford, PG Chad Carlson, who I believe was being recruited by both Calvin & Hope, is reportedly headed to Hope...

WOTS is that Stone Beckwith (Beal City) will be playing Alma this upcoming year. Very talented kid I have heard though have never seen him play. Older sister Sydney was a pretty solid player towards the end of Coach G's run as the girls coach here in Alma.

If so this leaves Saginaw Valley State with 7 scholarship players on the returning roster.

In addition to the returning players, they signed three freshmen for next year during the early signing period and must have additional money available--as of a month ago or so they had an offer on the table to Otsego C Reid Dugan.  I saw the Beckwith kid play in a BCAM event last summer and was impressed.  Based on a viewing sample of 1, he strikes me as someone who could be a very good MIAA player.

Good point!  Did I hear there was another Steve Honderd coming to Calvin?  ;)
