more from the twitterverse.

Adam Dykema G, Forest Hills Central to Kalamazoo??  (doesn't sound confirmed)

Really good pickup for the Hornets if they get him. Kid can shoot the lights out. Needs some motivation on the defensive end though.

So, no one confirmed so far to Calvin?

Hard to say anyone is confirmed until school opens in September. This is, after all, D3.

So far it looks as though Alma has a recruiting lead but Hope always happens to pull a couple good freshman out of there back pocket. 8-) 8-) 8-)

According to a tweet by Steve Bell, Visser will be walking on at CMU.

Hope beat Calvin in tennis this afternoon to claim a share of the MIAA Championship.

What's remarkable about this is Calvin, Hope and Kalamazoo all share the title at 5-1 meaning Kalamazoo's incredible streak of MIAA men's tennis championships continues.  Had Calvin won, the streak would be over.

from the MIAA's website:

Kalamazoo, Hope & Calvin Tie For MIAA Men's Tennis Crown; Hornets Extend Streak of Titles to 75
The longest streak of consecutive conference championships in American intercollegiate athletics remained intact Tuesday, as Kalamazoo defeated Alma, 9-0, while Hope knocked off Calvin, 6-3, to force a three-way tie for the MIAA men's tennis championship.

With Kalamazoo's win over Alma, combined with Hope's win over Calvin, Kalamazoo, Hope and Calvin ended the regular season tied for first in the MIAA at 5-1, giving the Hornets their 75th consecutive conference title dating back to 1936.

Kalamazoo had lost a dual meet to Calvin April 3, 6-3, meaning the Hornets needed a Hope victory over the Knights Tuesday to keep their streak alive.

The Hornets' run of consecutive titles began in 1936, when Franklin Roosevelt was President of the United States, and the U.S. was five years away from entering World War II.

Since then, the Hornets had won or shared every MIAA championship, posting a record of 456-2 in dual meets entering this season. Their only losses were in 1962 to Hope, 4-3, and in 2003 to Hope, 7-2. In both instances, the Hornets came back to win the season-ending tournament to claim a share of the conference title.

From April 15, 1935 to April 22, 1962, Kalamazoo won 155 straight MIAA dual meets. From 1962 to April 15, 2003, the Hornets won 241 consecutive conference dual meets. Calvin's April 3 dual meet win over Kalamazoo snapped a streak of 55 straight MIAA dual meet wins for the Hornets.

How are commissioner's points treated in a three way tie?

almcguirejr

WOTS is Kevin Koeman has resigned as head basketball coach at Holland Christian HS.

KnightSlappy

Nick Kronemeyer of Hamilton is coming to Calvin. I don't know anything about him except that he tweeted that he's coming to Calvin, he apparently plays basketball, and also apparently played football.

almcguirejr

WOTS is that Drew Neitzel is under consideration as Varsity Coach at West Ottawa.

Jenison is also looking for a new coach.

I saw him play both sports and he's an excellent all around athlete. If Calvin gets football, Nick might be the starting QB. He led the Hawkeyes in both rushing and passing, and was evenly balanced in those two parts of the game.

As for basketball, he's a muscular 6'1" guard who gets up and down the floor well and likes to force the action. Was the best player and leading scorer on Hamilton's 11-11 team. Probably not a varsity player as a freshmen but has possibilities down the road for the Knights. Could use a JV year to stretch his 3 point shooting skills. Former Calvin player he most resembles is probably Nate Burgess.

I have seen Nick Kronemeyer play and from what I see is that he has great ball handling, quite good vision and an overall ability to play the game. He reminds me of David Rietema with a good ability to defend and unselfish with the ball mostly hitting his bigmen inside orgetting a guard or a forward hitting a jump shot. I definetly would not be surprised if he gets action on the varsity team with the Knights. He is a great player and is going to have a nice 4 years with the Knights.

That's a possibility given the open point guard position at Calvin. Whether and how much Kronemeyer plays as a freshmen depends on who KVS has coming in. If we only go by the current roster of players, I believe Austin Parks has the inside track (I'm assuming Jordan Brink remains at the 2). If Brad Visser came to VNA he would be ahead of Kronemeyer and would have a real shot at major minutes next season. But according to Steve Bell's tweet, Visser intends to head for Mt. Pleasant as a walk-on (apparently not even a preferred walk-on). If so, I can't tell you how mind-numbingly stupid I would find that decision to be. Not only would he ride the pine (and there's no guarantee he would even make the team) for an alleged D1 basketball team, he would be doing so without any hope of post-season play. It's one thing to sit and enjoy the ride with a really good D1 team that has a shot at winning some NCAA tournament games; it's another to do so with a team that would have had trouble winning the MIAA last season. In November, Olivet outrebounded CMU 47-33 in their 76-62 loss to the Chips. Ouch. Keno Davis has his work cut out to make this program competitive in the MAC.

I'd assume Visser will be preferred walk-on, since someone from CMU tipped me off on it. If he were just going to walk on, they wouldn't care enough to put it out there.

Sac.  I think you did a great job with your year in review, and projections for next season for all the MIAA teams.  +k.  If you folks haven't followed his blog you may want to give it a read.  :)

He was given preferred walk-on status

Apparently Michael Welch, one of Stevensville Lakeshore's two quality big guys, is headed for Calvin. This is a very nice pickup for the Knights. Of the West Michigan big men available to the local small colleges, Welch isn't the best one (that honor belongs to either Josh Groenhof or Ryan Wassink, depending on what you're looking for), but he's sure on anyone's short list. Michael is 6'8", has an excellent shooting touch, and handles the ball very well for a big man. His older brother Joey played for Bethel (ironically and sadly  :'( Wassink's destination) but Michael will don the maroon and gold. I would see him as a 4, not a post player at VNA.

Speaking of Groenhof, there's still no word on his destination. If Calvin could add Josh to the list, it would make for a formidable front line a couple of years down the road, and would be a very good recruiting class.
