quote from Grace Bible's schedule 'outline'

Two NCAA III teams are on this years schedule with Calvin College and Finlandia University.

Right that's the Tip-off tournament. It's not clear if that means they're scheduled to play Calvin on Friday as usual, or if they're simply going to be there.

In related news, Calvin was looking for a fourth team for the Tournament as recently as April 10.

http://www.d3boards.com/index.php?topic=4536.msg1509099#msg1509099

Here's to hoping that CoF became that 4th team and that the field isn't currently Calvin, Grace Bible, College of Faith, TBD.

Also, Anderson's site shows that their series with Calvin will continue. They play Tuesday, November 19 at Anderson.

I just threw up a little bit in my mouth.
And I can smell it from here.

They have a trip to Grinnell on Jan. 6 of next year. I have to put that on my calendar. I smell an attempt at some outlandish record.

OMG! :o  Is there time enough to pass an NCAA rule that records set against College of Faith DO NOT EXIST?! ;D

A common concussion symptom, goodknight, and not at all surprising, particularly if you took FDF's admonition to repeat the "head.desk" action that KS reported (beautiful KS--still laughing about that!)...
And in the "still laughing" category, with all the nominations for "post of the____" going around, I'd like to nominate sac's "a change up, a fast ball, and a hard diving breaking ball...3 strikes and out" as the "Posterization of the Month." Is there any YouTube video footage available? ;)

Maybe some better news can provide a remedy for your expectoration. I'm surprised next season's Calvin hoops schedule isn't up yet. It usually gets posted in April, but I'm told that the Knight's upcoming Christmas trip will be to SoCal where Calvin will play Redlands and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, a pair of excellent SCIAC teams who went 1-2 in that conference last season. If I heard Mike DeWitt correctly on last month's Hoopsville season finale, as long as D3 teams play at least 70% of their games against D3 competition, these out-of-region games now count for purposes of strength of schedule, as will Calvin's matchups in the CCIW/MIAA challenge. Those four nonconference games should be a pretty solid contribution to Calvin's SOS for 2013-14.

KnightSlappy

Calvin will need 19 of 27 games (inc. MIAA Tournament) to be in-region.

In-region
14 MIAA games
2 MIAA Tournament games
1 vs. Anderson

Out-of-region
1 Grace Bible (or at least one Tip-off Tournament game)
2 GRSHOF Classic
2 MIAA-CCIW Classic
2 Holiday in SoCal

So they'll need two of their final three unknown games (probably two single games and one possible Tip-Off game) to be in-region to qualify*. Last year it was single games vs. Finlandia and Manchester (and Tip-off vs. North Park) that would have gotten them over the hump. Wonder if they'll decided to guarantee an in-region matchup in the Tip-off (should one exist) and not play Grace Bible on Friday.

*Even two of the three might not make them safe, however, as 18 of 26 being in-region (let's say getting upset in the MIAA semi's) would be 69.2%.

This is also why Wheaton/Carthage not being in region is still a relevant conversation despite them "counting".

Isn't the number of games based on 25 regular season games? I didn't think the conference tournament games counted for purposes of calculating the 70% rule. There's no guarantee your team will get into the conference tournament. Of course, if you don't finish in the top four in the MIAA, your SOS isn't much of an issue, is it?

Pat Coleman

That's something we need clarification on, to be sure.

My impression was that it would be calculated after the fact, so it would be calculated based on the number of games you actually played. I guess I don't really know though.

Either way, Calvin will want 18 regular season games to be in-region (17/25 is 68%). That means there must be an in-region team for the Tip-Off Tournament and two single in-region games coming (or another tournament). If not, they risk missing the 70% rule.

I assume it's because the PR office at Grace doesn't know the correct use of the possessive.
One Mississippi, Two Mississippi...

In case anyone was wondering Hope will be over the 70% threshold.  With just the Aquinas/Cornerstone weekend as games outside D3.  Four in-region games, with 5 outside that should end up counting.

sac

Also, the Hall of Fame Tournament and MIAA/CCIW Challenge have been pushed back one week from previous years.

ie, Hall of Fame Tournament is one week after Thanksgiving weekend.

MIAA/CCIW challenge one week later and now in the middle of the "dead scheduling" period when hardly any D3's are available because of starting conference play.  This is a great move.

sac, given the emphasis placed on this board for factual reporting and correct information (which provided you with the fodder that spawned your post that led me to nominate you for May posterizer), I'd be far more comfortable if the newly minted addition to your signature identified you as "Nominee" instead of "Recipient."   I'm just looking out for your best interest....that way you don't run the risk of our resident attorney  (ok, ok, where are you?  Put the clubs back in your trunk and get back to the office!) suing you into oblivion for false representation or some such nonsense ;D

Wheaton's site shows the MIAA-CCIW being played December 6 and 7 (the weekend after Thanksgiving weekend). They're scheduled to host Alma on the 14th.

I had assumed Calvin's schedule to look like:

Tues, Nov 19 at Anderson

Friday, Nov 22 Tip-off Tournament
Sat, Nov 23 Tip-of Tournament

Friday, Nov 29 GRSHOF
Sat, Nov 30 GRSHOF

Friday, Dec 6 MIAA-CCIW
Sat, Dec 7 MIAA-CCIW

which would be consistent with most years.
