UWSP and UWW lose very little from last season and will probably be ranked among the top 10 to 15 teams in D3 to start the season, if not top 5.

Carthage, Lake Forest, Edgewood all finished under .500, everyone else was competing for conference titles and NCAA tournament bids.

The general theme of nearly all the teams on the schedule is 'loose very little, return almost everyone'.  A very challenging schedule for what should be a pretty young Hope team.

Hope has never played Stevens Point, Thomas More, Centre, Wilmington or Edgewood

SOS should be very high again no doubt.  I think heading into the conference above .500 would indicate a pretty good start to the season.

Just noticing in the pic above the schedule (left) is that Brock Benson's little brother sipping an Arnold Palmer??? Maybe it is on his unofficial visit we had a discussion on earlier...

Yes it is, he was at just about all of Hope's games last winter.........as was Brock so it might not mean much. ;)

Detroit Country Day has a new head coach:

Plumb job, now he just needs the Chris Weber's and Shane Battier's of Metro Detroit.  (Am I dating myself there?)

Mr. Ypsi

Had my first New Holland Dragon's Milk tonight (Father's Day gift from younger son).  Stout is not my thing, but this was GOOD!  I enjoy a Guinness about once a year; I think this was better.

(Sorry for going MIAC on ya'll - their off-season topics are fishing and beer.  I'll skip the fishing.)

Watch out for that Dragon's Milk.  They are strong.  Mrs. Northb had one at the Winchester a while back; at least she insists it was just one.  So strong that she does not recall the second and the third that I saw her have.

Dragon's Milk is definitely high on my list, as is The Poet, but my current favorite is a Dead Poet - 50/50 mix of Dragon's Milk and The Poet.

Also thoroughly enjoy their whiskeys - specifically Zeppelin Bend and Beer Barrel Bourbon.  Some interesting rotation of barrels must be happening at NHB - Dragon's Milk is touted for it's aging in bourbon barrels, while Beer Barrel Bourbon is touted for it's aging in beer barrels.

From the article:

"Holland — Former Hope College basketball Jason Mejeur has been hired as Holland Christian's varsity boys basketball, the school announced today."

I heard from a close friend that Wilson also put in for the job, but apparently being of a different type of sports ball isn't covered under Hope's anti-discrimination hiring policy.

Jason followed that great coaching philosophy - "be the ball"    ;D    ;D

But seriously I always loved watching him play - tough, physical player that always left it all on the floor, even during practice.  Love the story about the time the team was headed to the Civic Center for a "light practice - not much more than a shoot around" and no trainer was going to go along.  One of the coaches asked, "Is Mejeur gonna be there?"  The answer was yes, so a trainer was then an absolute requirement.

Rule changes made official

http://m.freep.com/Sports/article?a=2013306250063&f=1233

Charge/block rule supposedly adjusted to be more in favor of the offense and the popular...." More emphasis will be placed on calling fouls on defensive players who impede progress of offensive players with their arms and hands."

I'll believe that when I see it, probably at Kresge. ;)
