The buzz on the boulevard around Knollcrest Way is that Brad Visser, one of KVS's top recruits this past year, has opted to turn down his earlier acceptance of a preferred walk-on spot at Central Michigan University.  It now appears highly likely that he'll wear the maroon and gold for the Calvin College Knights instead of the Chips.  We'll know for sure on the first day of school, early next month.

If it comes to pass, the biggest KVS recruiting scoop of the year was getting Visser's girlfriend to attend Calvin. It seems Brad has removed the CMU logo from his twitter page and he recently tweeted Jeremiah 29:11. That passage reads:

For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Fortunately for Knight fans, it seems the Weeping prophet wasn't using the word "hope" as a proper noun.

For Knight fans, isn't 'hope' considered to be an IMproper noun? ;)

Considering the last season, they are more of dangling participle   ::)

Where did the participle dangle to?

Ryan Nadeau Tweeted today that he has enrolled at Michigan State. I think that's pretty much confirmation that he wasn't going to be the nominal starter at the PG position for the Knights. It's never fun to lose depth like that though. Ryan will be missed.

I'm sorry to hear that news!  He looked like the strongest option of the returning players for PG at the end of the season just as Mitch Vallie appeared to be a possibility for shooting forward.  It is disappointing to lose such strong players, but I am sure a great deal goes into their decisions, including factors other than basketball.  It will be interesting to see who emerge as the point guard and shooting forward starters and backups.  There are a few good option among returning players but nobody appears to be as pure a point guard as Ryan.  It is encouraging that we have as many guards among the sophomores and incoming freshmen as we do.  That should help.

Saw Kolin playing with the AQ team this summer at The Courthouse and suspected this might be happening

I'm not convinced that Ryan would have developed into a quality starting option for the Knights.  His lack of size was just too much to overcome in the college game.  But he was a fine young man and his presence on the bench will be missed.  I'm far more dismayed by Mitch Vallie's departure from the Calvin program.  It certainly appeared that he would have contributed important minutes if he were healthy for his upcoming senior season.

I'm going to forward this sentiment to Trent Salo to get his thoughts on the matter.  :)

I agree, though, that he was probably destined to be nothing more than a fringe starter for the Knights, but given the current depth/experience level at the PG position, I'd feel more comfortable having Ryan around.

With the speculation by some of the esteemed members of our posting community that Austin Parks would pass Nadeau on the depth chart come November and now the timing of Ryan's departure following Brad Visser's decision to come to Calvin, one would think that KVS may have given him (i.e. Ryan Nadeau) the heads up that playing time may again be sparse.

Although it is no suprise to hear the speculation that Austin Parks might have passed Nadeau on the depth chart, the question remains whether Park's future is a PG or at shooting guard.  He certainly has the shooting skills, but does he have much in the way of ball handling strengths?  The comment about Trent Salo and the recent history with David Rietema bring to mind that ball handling skills are more important than size and shooting for many PGs.

Trent was a career 40% three point shooter at Calvin (That's the ninth best career percentage with my data that goes back through 1998, min 100 attempts). Fewer attempts, but that's a better percentage than Ricky Shilts had.

Salo was no taller than Nadeau, I'll give you that.  But he was stronger, and he was faster, and he was a superior shooter who found ways to get some space to launch the 3-ball.

From what I've been told, Vallie wasn't exactly assured of any sort of playing time in the coming season which may have played a role in the decision to leave Calvin.
