Trine 63  Earlham 51

Trine rallies in the second half to beat Earlham.  The Thunder struggled to shoot the ball all night.  Trine had a huge advantage in turnovers which resulted in almost 25 more FG attempts, just couldn't convert.

Only 8 guys played for Trine with Fr. Will Dixon being the only newcomer.

Tyler Good 21, Todd Watkins 11  (side note, I had a childhood friend named Tyler Good and my neighbor across the street growing up was Todd Watkins.  This is weird for me)

Earlham was picked 10th in the HCAC and lost last week to lowly Piedmont.  Earlham drops to 0-3

Please forgive me for going off topic but based on win probabilities obtained from Massey, there is a 67.9% chance Calvin and Hope will be playing for a national championship in volleyball on Saturday. Just thought I would throw that out there with quarterfinal play beginning today.
Hope loses in 3 sets.  Massey's 67.9% chance isn't happening unfortunately.

UWSP's win probability was just 10% according to Massey.

Obviously, Massey is a Hope fan and inflated the numbers!  ;)

Tonight is the start of the early season tournament schedule for Calvin. They play in the GR Tip-Off tournament. The game before theirs is Grace Bible playing College of Faith. Its a rematch and the previous contest had The GBC Tigers winning 87-77. But if you can remember back to last year this is the same team that lost to Hope 119-20. A big jump. They beat Mount Vernon
Nazarene University 93-89. An average team that went 11-19 last year. They look to have improved and could potentially make things interesting tonight. Also in Calvin's game tonight it would interesting to see who controls the point, whether it is Parks, Daley or MacDonald. An odd point is that Kyle MacDonald didn't see the floor at all in the away game at Anderson. Another option could be Brad Visser or Danny Leach who are highly touted freshman.

Must have played a really tough schedule!

Mt Vernon Nazarene's current Massey rank of 1608 would put them slightly below Olivet who currently owns the 332rd spot in Division III.

Well the Crossroads is a very good small college league.  You can be a good team and end up with 10 losses pretty easily in that league.

Expanding on Mt. Vernon further, they were picked solidly #10 in the Crossroads again this year.  So far 3-3 with a win over mighty Purdue-North Central and Akron-Fort Wayne and rather ominous losses to Lawrence Tech and College of Faith.  'average' is stretching it.

More on topic is College of Faith who has no one off last years roster on the team this year with 10 of 12 players being transfers from Junior College or other 4 year Universities (with walls and stuff).  This 2.0 version of the 'Internet School' is a much different animal than last years collection.

Calvin volleyball wins 3-0 over Emory.  On to the finals!

Kalamazoo 102  Earlham 83

Nice student support!  Earlham might be one of the shortest teams in the Midwest.  Having watched a little of it, I think Kzoo did what they should have done.

COF defeats Grace and advances to the championship game tomorrow.  :)

And it's Calvin and COF in the finals tomorrow as the Knights run past Kuyper 105-86.

Lots of offense in this one and not much strap-it-down D.

The unofficial stats had Mickey DeVries with 23, and Jordan Daley with 17.   Tyler Kruis, Jordan Brink and Austin Parks also scored in double figures.

Whitewater 83  Hope 70

Close, competitive game until about 6 min left and then Hope really fell apart with about 8 or 9 consecutive possessions where nothing went their way.  Disappointing final margin, I don't think it reflects the closeness of this game at all.

Foul trouble played  a part, Blackledge sat 19 minutes of the first half, and both Van Arendonk and Benson reach 4 fouls and had to sit just before Whitewater made their decisive charge.  Neither were on the floor when WW took control of the game.  WW made 14 more FT's, and that's the margin.

Gardner 21, VanArendonk 10

Manchester 67  Trine 61

When everything washes out, this probably isn't a 'good' loss.  I would put Kzoo ahead of Trine at this point.

Holmquist 15, Dixon 12, Tatu 12, Good 10

Hope had only 15 turnovers in their game but committed 6 of them in the final 6 minutes of the game.
