Brits led 12-0 and have never looked back.

??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Calvin has long had a distinguished faculty in its Philosophy Department. During my time as a student, the two most respected (and feared, from a GPA point of view--if you know my meaning) were Al Plantinga and Nick Wolterstorff. Sadly, I didn't have the courage to take classes from both of them so I settled on Wolterstoff's offering on Basic Logic. I think he taught me something about syllogisms. It is not:

A > B
C > A
Ergo B > C

Albion basketball is so good it can open up new vistas in Basic Logic. :o 8-)

Part of this Basic Logic mystery may have been solved.  Earlham is down to 9 players on its roster, 5 Fr., 4 Soph's.
http://www.goearlham.com/roster.aspx?path=mbball&

By my calculations they were missing 45 minutes of contributions from two guys who no longer appear on the roster.  Between them they had also started 10 games.

So it's more like:

A > B
C > A
B > .775 C

This is the first time in years that I've seen a conversation that included math take place on this board with zero input from anyone whose last name is Snyder.  ;)

Like most other games, Illinois Tech excepted, Trine is getting little from its bench in both minutes and points.  Likely, this will not serve them well as the conference games commence.

I watched player introductions from the Concordia video archive late last night.  Wesley Reed is indeed back for Adrian.

Wow - that's a significant return for them.

Adrian has surely had a very fluid, constantly changing roster for the last couple of years.

Kalamazoo 90  Marygrove 86

Kzoo jumped to a 20-3 lead off the openings tip but let a 19 point second half lead get away, found themselves tied with the 0-12 Mustangs and had to scrape this one out.

Adam  Peters 36 points on 16-21 shooting, Ghafari 18, Baysdell 11

Marygrove's previous margins of defeat had been 11, 13, 55, 17, 56, 49, 47, 11, 29, 44, 40 and 33

And finally we arrive to the date of Hope's home opener.  Doubt that it's ever occured this late in the season before.  Looked at stats back to 01-02 season, and the latest home opener was 12/10 twice (04-05 and 10-11).  Going to be strange to have a first home game well after the students have gone home for the holidays.  Here's HOPEing the weather doesn't cause any issues and we still get a full house.

Sad news today from Hope College . . . that its loyal fan, Dr. Harrison Visscher--someone who attended practices as well as games--died last evening.  Dr. Visscher, a Hope alum and recent donor of an endowed chair in Biology, moved to Holland on retirement from his work as education director for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.  He was a brilliant man and loved to read, and relate, science and religion.

Although he wintered in Florida, he stayed to watch Hope's recent games in Grand Rapids, and postponed his Florida stay this year until after this weekend's games, where his spirit will be missed.  Among his survivors is his twin brother, Robert, with whom he shared an Ob/Gyn practice in Grand Rapids, before assuming his professional leadership role.

Interesting... Why does Hope only play on back-to-back nights?  EVERY game this year has either been the front end or the back end of a two game set...  And it will continue until 2014.

Perhaps the only thing that's stranger that I've seen this year was Whitworth and Colorado College playing a home-and-home... 8 days apart.

Next year the home opener will be considerably earlier... Next fall, Whitewater and Stevens Point are returning the favor of Hope's Wisconsin barnstorming tour from the beginning of the year by taking their respective shows to the Mitten.  And I finally get to see DeVos because one of my wife's best friends just moved back to Grand Rapids... and she said we can go!

Hope 78   Lake Forest 66

Hope put some distance between themselves and the Forresters at the start of the second half and cruised, relatively, for the win.  The entirety of the deficit and change came from the 3 point line where LF was just 3-12 and Hope only  9-26, not pretty but that difference was the margin.

Eidson 14, Blackledge 13,  Gardner 9, McMahon 9

Saturday Hope gets #3 Illinois Wesleyan, their 4th top 25 team in 8 games.  I would make IWU a comfortable 10-14 point favorite.

A reminder....
IWU  108  Hope 101  2OT
IWU  68    Hope 67

....maybe get there early......and bring an ice scraper.

I was at that one - perhaps the best game (at any level) I have ever seen.  BOTH teams deserved to be playing at least two more games.  Damned bean counters! :P

(Though it was actually a reasonable second-round game on paper.  Hope was ranked #1; IWU had 17 points.)

Based on what I saw last night, if Hope keeps it within 14 I'll be surprised.
