Kalamazoo at Hope  ...take 3  7:30pm

possible video link:  http://hope.edu/live

Kalamazoo's coming off a big win at Albion Saturday in the same gym Albion beat Hope by 20.  That should get your attention enough.

Starting 5 they used against Albion, really only used 7 guys:
Kzoo lineup
G  Carl Ghafari       5-9  Jr.
G  Mark Ghafari      6-0  Sr.
G  Grant Carey       6-3  Sr.
F  Aaron Shoenfeldt  6-4  Jr.
F  Adam Peters      6-3  Jr.
----------------------------------
G  Adam Dykema    6-3  Fr.
G  Josh Whitney     6-5  Fr.
G  Carter Goetz      6-5  Sr.
F  Chase Baysdell  6-6  Fr.
F  Josh Miller           6-8  Fr.

The only 3 starters they've been set on are the Ghafari's and Peters so the Hornets could go a lot of ways.

Kzoo likes an uptempo game and like Olivet will push the ball up the floor when possible.  Both they and their opponents shoot 45% from the floor.  Mark Ghafari and Adam Peters are the two main offensive threats and the offense will go through and off both of them.   In league play they've matured into a more well rounded team with Chase Baysdell and Adam Dykema seeing more scoring.

Saturday's win at Albion was their best defensive effort of the season.

NOTE:  Neither Chase Baysell or Adam Dykema have played in Kzoo's last two games

My only advice if you're relying on video and can't make it to the game is to check the link above around tip-off, if its there sit back and enjoy.  If not, its just like Hope previous 1,000 home games.

I was told that Calvin was given 200 tickets total.

On good authority, Calvin was given 17% of capacity, between 500-600 tickets.

About 270 of those were designated student tickets

Calvin's Game Day Facebook page said there are 200 student tickets they will start handing out tonight.  And as Sac mentions, I'm sure Calvin was given more tickets than just these.

Hope 76 Kalamazoo 61

Pretty convincing win for the Dutchmen, led just about the entire game and by double-digits for a lot of it.  Kzoo could have made it a game but went just 1-12 from 3 while Hope went 10-24

Hope:  Eidson 27, Benson 16
Kzoo:  Peters 22, Baysdell 11

What happened to him?  Is he expected to play on Wednesday?

I do not know. He had a black wrap on his left leg from the knee to the ankle.

I do not know. He had a black wrap on his left leg from the knee to the ankle.

I didn't see what happened - he caught a pass in the first half and then immediately called time out and hobbled to the bench. He was wearing a compression sleeve on his knee, and when they pulled it down I could see the swelling from across the court. They put some ice on it before halftime. He didn't come out with the rest of the team after the break, and limped to the bench just before the start of the second half. He stayed there the rest of the game. The wrap you mentioned from his ankle to his knee I believe was the knee sleeve slid down his leg.

There was another injury in the game very late. Harrison Blackledge and a Kazoo player (don't remember who) collided. Both went out, and Harrison had a severely split lip and was out being stitched up after the game. It was bad enough several Hope players described it as a tear to his lip.

standings with +/-........+1 for road wins/-1 for home losses

Calvin   7-1     +3
Hope    7-1     +3
Albion   5-3      0
Kzoo    4-4      +1
Trine    4-4       0
Alma    2-5      -2
Olivet   1-6     -3
Adrian  1-7     -2

Home teams are just 15-17 this year, that's pretty unusual.

What's left:

Adrian:    TRINE, CALVIN, @Albion, @Kzoo, ALMA, HOPE
Albion:    @Alma, @Hope, ADRIAN, OLIVET, @Trine, @Calvin
Alma:      ALBION, OLIVET, @Trine, @Hope, @Olivet, @Adrian, KZOO,
Calvin:    @Hope, @Adrian, KZOO, @Trine, OLIVET, ALBION
Hope:     CALVIN, ALBION, @Olivet, ALMA, @Kzoo, @Adrian
Kzoo:      OLIVET, TRINE, @Calvin, ADRIAN, HOPE, @Alma
Olivet:    @Kzoo, @Alma, HOPE, @Albion, ALMA, @Calvin, TRINE,
Trine:     @Adrian, @Kzoo, ALMA, CALVIN, ALBION, @Olivet

Mr. Obvious points out the winner of the Hope/Calvin game has the upper hand in the championship race.  Beyond that game maybe a slight schedule advantage to Hope but not much of one.

In the battle for the 3/4 spots I think Kzoo has a little bit of a schedule advantage with 4 home games, while Albion has 4 road games remaining.   Trine has just one Hope/Calvin game remaining, generally a favorable home schedule.   Alma also only has one game remaining with Hope, while Kzoo and Albion have to play them both, but Alma needs a lot of help.

Tom Snikkers plays for Aris Leeuwarden in the top Dutch league and is doing well personally, even if his team is under .500. He has worked his way into the starting lineup where he shares the backcourt with former VCU star and Shaka Smart's point guard, Darius Theus. Snik continues to follow the Calvin/Hope rivalry. There's a nice article about Tom on mlive:

The Trine at Kzoo game looks massively important for the Hornets. If they lose that, they'll be 0-2 head-to-head and lose the tiebreaker. Kalamazoo would be forced to run the table otherwise Trine would only have to win three of the other five games (which include the bottom three teams).
