Knight vision, I am the reigning pick em' Champion (ouch) and watched a total of one game live last year.  If you've played basketball, coached basketball, simply watched and are smart enough to pick up on trends, obvious or subtle- like Ghafari sustaining a knee injury....you can score pretty well ;)

Tip- after Hope got embarrassed at Albion, the Brits won't come within 20 this weekend.  From the moment Hope entered the lockeroom after Wednesdays game, they've been talking about "no letdowns" and securing the top seed.  Unlike some teams that aren't ready to play, Hope will step on their throats.  But then again, I've been told on here that I " know nothing about basketball"....so pick Albion!

Thinking about potential POY in the MIAA this year....it isn't impossible to think that Calvin might get its first since Jeremy Veenstra.  That statement seems crazy to me since 1) it's incredible how long it's been, and 2) it doesn't really feel like we have that clear MVP type player.  My understanding is that the non-league games aren't considered, so the gaudy scoring totals of Mark Ghafari in non league games wouldn't count.  He's injured now and putting up more normal numbers anyways.  Hope doesn't have that standout statistical player, and no one else in the league is separating themselves statistically like Ian Jackson did last year.  The two Calvin candidates: Jordan Brink has actually scored more points than any player in MIAA play this year, and has excellent shooting percentages and assist/turnover numbers.  Tyler Kruis has been producing at a higher level recently and may finish the season with the league's best scoring/rebounding combo of any player.  I'd be interested to hear who else people would vote for at this point--8 games into the league season.

If Alex Eidson has a good second half of the season he is my pick.  He has stood out in the 2 Calvin games.  His 17 points in 18 minutes of play on just 8 shots Wednesday night shows just how effective he is.

Heck, you don't even need that.  Until the next tabulation by FDF, I am the current leader, and I can't do any of that stuff.  I just lay out towels with the teams' colors, and pick whichever one my cat sits on first.  Just do it for fun...

True enough that you were leading coming into Wednesday.  I would be remiss not to mention that things have changed since the completion of the Wed/Thu games, and Civic Minded is now leading the way.  (Nice win-win for me, getting to contribute to this conversation and also score a few brownie points).   ::)

hoopdreams, that advice is just about as clear as the bovine "manure" that I've been accused of peddling (oldknight, please note the correct spelling of the word  ;D  and just to be clear, that's a  bovine manure eating grin).

To recap what I'm processing right now....

IF one complains of a fragile psyche as a reason to not do the Pick 'em contest....
but one receives encouragement to participate with some humor interjected....
and copious amounts of good-natured banter and mild trash-talking ensues among current participants that leads one to believe it's a fun-loving enterprise....

THEN one should think more seriously about participating........but  be prepared for things to turn quickly if a) I'm winning; or b) my comments on the board more broadly lead me to have my picks scrutinized....

Do the rules permit me to participate in the Pick 'em contest under a different name to protect my fragile psyche?     :-\

Per Merriam-Webster

pedal:   to propel
peddle:  to sell

Being a broad minded kind of wordsmyth, ::) I find either verb works. No matter how I look at it, it's all bm to me. :D

The over under for points scored in the Alma/Olivet game today could be 200 but we'll go with 185.  A few weeks ago I might have said 210.

Albion at Hope

Last time these two played Albion won with better guard play where Lawrence Ridgell outscored Ben Gardner and Alex Eidson by himself 18-8.  Eidson was shutout with zero points in only 17 minutes of action.

On the inside Carter Elliot and Jordan Herron played VanArendonk/Benson to pretty much a draw with 20pts/9 rbs to 20pts/12 rbs.  Not sure if Hope will start Stuive over Benson in this match-up or not, but that's the lineup Hope's been going with.

Dakota Kazen was the wild card with what I presume was a career high 17 points.  A couple Hope guys had pretty bad defensive outings that day.  Will be interesting to see how they respond today.  Second chance coming off a big win vs a team coming a big loss.

KzooHornet

No Ghafari in the starting lineup for K.  Mark may be out again and now Carl could be as well.   Could just be a lineup switch for Carl.  Guess we will see soon enough.

Wow, can't believe I'm watching a hope game on my computer, welcome to the show.  Is it just me or does the hope camera have an orange filter on it?

Indoor lighting produces an orange hue in photography.  There should be a  filter button on the camera called 'tungsten' that would correct that.

Hope 88 Albion 73

Pretty solid win.  Albion just didn't have the defensive intensity they had at Kresge.  Hope was 54% from the field and 11-21 from 3.

Hope:  Gardner 20, Eidson 14, McMahon 13,  Benson 10, Stuive 10
Albion:  Oakes 14, Ridgell 12, Herron 10

sac

Trine 84  Kalamazoo 67

This one really was never close, Trine led by big double digits from early on.  Neither Mark or Carl Ghafari played for the Hornets.  Jared Holmquist dominated early 25 pts on 9-10 from the floor.  Trine now holds the tiebreaker for over Kzoo.

This game had 42 total rebounds.

Trine:  Holmquist 25, Dixon 20, Good 16
Kalamazoo:  Baysdell 16, Peters 14
