Hope is hosting and Calvin is headed to St. Louis.

Penn State-Behrend

@WashU
Wilmington

Wittenberg
Calvin

Not sure why Hope hosts over Wheaton other than it seems a strong indicator that Calvin broke into the final rankings. Would give Hope an extra 2-1 in results vs regionally ranked and while that loss was an ugly one, it only equals the 0-1 added to Wheaton's resume if Calvin was indeed ranked at the end.

When I seeded teams for this half of the country I had Wheaton as the last #1, Hope as the first #2.  It could have gone either way.

We also don't know if Wheaton put in the paperwork to host though I assume they would have.

The seedings in this pod match mine with Hope/Wheaton flipped.

1.  Hope
4.  PSU-Behrend
3.  Rose-Hulman
2.  Wheaton

Central location perhaps? Not sure, but that seems plausible.

It's 481 miles from Erie PA to Wheaton IL.  All 4 schools in this pod are within 500 miles of each other, so it doesn't appear to be about location.

#38762
Quadrant, AVG Massey Rating, Stdev

Bottom Left Quadrant, 36.81, 43.09
Top Left Quadrant, 59.80, 76.09
Top Right Quadrant, 66.80, 64.60
Bottom Right Quadrant, 73.63, 60.06

So while the bottom left quadrant looks the hardest per Massey Ratings, the other three quadrants may look more difficult, one the initial round chaff is eliminated. Teams like Northwestern, Morrisville St, Mitchell, Gordon, LaGrange, Webster, DeSales, Husson, Bridgewater St. and Hartwick really make a quadrant look easier.

Average Massey Rating of top 8 in Quadrant

Bottom Left, 10.25
Top Left, 14.75
Top Right, 23.50
Bottom Right, 31.00

at Washington

I had Wilmington/Wittenberg as 3 seeds with Calvin the first 4 and the thought Calvin could easily be a 3 with different interpretation of the criteria.

This pod is missing a "2" from my board.  Two two's were sent to Whitewater.  Augustana/St. Thomas although both of these were my last two two's.

Wilmington is a very tough draw for Washington I think.

That's all well and good, but, when looking at the MIAA teams, I just see Penn. St. Behrand, Wheaton, Wooster, Washington/IWU... (path to the Final Four for Hope)

And Wittenberg, @Washington, IWU, and Wooster (path to the Final Four for Calvin)

Would have liked to see Wooster moved out, but both teams avoided being sent to UWWW or UWSP....
Let's go Dutchmen!

Looks tough to me.  3 top 10 massey teams in both paths.  Not that Hope or Calvin deserved easier...both not elite teams.

Go Hope! :-)

I think the NCAA deserves a hand for seeding.  At least in the Western half these really look like correct seeds (mostly) or at least they match my thoughts.

The IWU bracket is a little strong but only if you believe St. Norbert should have been higher than a #2.

Really my only beef is the NCAA being able to separate Williams/Amherst but not Whitewater/Stevens Point.  Could have easily been done.

Interesting sending 3 Great Lakes Region teams all the way to St. Louis.

It has been a long time since Calvin played Wittenberg correct?

My memory says 1995.  Calvin lost at Witt in 1st round.  Same night the "team that shall not be mentioned" beat Hope. :) :)

Pre-dates me, which is unfortunately becoming an increasingly meaningful statement...

Maybe not the best scenario Calvin could have hoped for but I'm very much looking forward to the game. It is the type of matchup I think most of us wish we could see on a more regular basis.

This is actually the first time Hope and Calvin have made the same tournament and been bracketed away from each other.

Every other time they were set to meet in the 2nd round.

It makes you wonder if the committee even takes into consideration Hope's 19 point loss to Wheaton.

They probably also took into consideration Wheaton and Hope results vs Carthage, Illinois Wesleyan and Calvin.

Times tbd yet.  That will be this afternoon's project, according to the info we received at Hoops Club Luncheon.

It is my understanding that MOV's don't get taken into consideration in seeding/hosting decisions.  Right?
