It has been a long time since Calvin played Wittenberg correct?
My memory says 1995.  Calvin lost at Witt in 1st round.  Same night the "team that shall not be mentioned" beat Hope. :) :)

I don't get it... why is Baldwin-Wallace the "team that shall not be mentioned"?

BW was the 8th seed that beat a #1 seed Hope that had serious National Championship aspirations.  Just when Sac seems to be over it, someone brings it up again and sets him back months in his recovery.

Not sure why Hope hosts over Wheaton other than it seems a strong indicator that Calvin broke into the final rankings. Would give Hope an extra 2-1 in results vs regionally ranked and while that loss was an ugly one, it only equals the 0-1 added to Wheaton's resume if Calvin was indeed ranked at the end.

It makes you wonder if the committee even takes into consideration Hope's 19 point loss to Wheaton.

Seems to me they are very close on paper. Both teams lost to Calvin and IWU. Hope's losses to UWWW and UWSP are cancelled by Wheaton's to Wooster and the second to IWU...

Both teams beat Carthage and both teams has a bad loss (Hope = Albion, Wheaton = North Central)... Do Wheaton's wins against Hope and Carthage outweigh Hope's wins against Centre and Calvin twice?

Maybe, but I don't think it's by enough to say, "Wheaton got screwed"

Let's go Dutchmen!

I don't think anyone ever said Wheaton got screwed. It's just that if you told me those four teams were going to be in a pod, my first guess would have been that it would be played at Wheaton.

I just learned about a new medical treatment on here a couple days ago.  So who do we start feeding lemon cookies to:  sethteater or sac?   :-\

Hopester

Based on the women's draw, they may not get priority to host on the second weekend among their opponents, provided they even make it there.

So I guess, for the men, if Hope happens to be the central location and make it that far, they may be able to host again. (in my head I am already dreaming of a Hope Calvin matchup with the final four berth on the line in Holland)
Its a great day to be a Dutchman!

I was simply answering Sac's question.  If he had gone to the MIAA site, like I did, to learn the information he would have learned the context. :) :) :) Sac is happy: 1. his team is in, 2. his team is hosting. :)

Wash U website has Calvin playing Wittenberg at 8:30pm on Friday

So it does, but wonder if that is official. The host playing in the first game doesn't sound right. Dave McHugh just said on the currently airing Hoopsville that first games must be scheduled for between 5-6 p.m. local time with the second game two hours later.

Edit: Even if Calvin was in the second game, that would put the first game at 6:30, outside the window required by the handbook.

Calvin College and No. 23-ranked Wittenberg University will square off in first-round action on Friday, while Washington University will take on Wilmington College in the second game.

St. Louis is Central time, and times listed are generally all Eastern for standardization purposes.

This is the way it is stated in the handbook:
QuoteAll single-game sessions shall start at 7 p.m. All two-game sessions shall start between 5 and 6 p.m. A host institution desiring to deviate from these times must request approval from the Men's Basketball Committee. The home team will play the second game during the semifinal round.

I was trying to clarify the time differential.  6:30 eastern would be 5:30 local in St. Louis.  This would meet handbook guidelines.

I wasn't familiar with that procedure either until I "googled" it.  The collective wisdom on this board can be astounding at times.
