hot hand theory exists?

no.
Yes, if you were wondering, I do believe in the hot hand theory. On the other hand, I don't believe that it is calculated in science labs or broken down in a classroom. It is ,in my point of view, a mind set in which a shooter would tend to make more shots if he has more self-confidence and vis-versa.

Can't put a number on something like shooting percentage.

Would that be the cold hand? Pun intended?

From the article:

QuoteAdjusting for the increased difficulty of the shots, the researchers found that hot players were likely to continue outperforming. The “hot-hand effect,” they estimated, raised their chances of making a shot by 1.2% to 2.4%.

So this is their groundbreaking finding. Here would be Calvin's adjusted three-point percentages if every shot taken could be with the hot hand (using the most extreme case of 2.4% increase*).

PCT     HOT      NAME
0.455   0.466    Jordan Brink
0.390   0.399    Jordan Daley
0.385   0.394    Jordan Mast
0.377   0.386   Totals
0.375   0.384    Tyler Dykstra
0.351   0.359    Tyler Kruis
0.349   0.357   Opponent
0.339   0.347    Brad Visser
0.336   0.344    Austin Parks
0.333   0.341    B.j. Van loo

*Assuming they indeed meant percentage increase and not percentage point increase.

Assuming other teams would have a similar percentage increase, here is the list of Calvin's games that would have had a different outcome had the losing team increased it's made basket's percentage by the noted amount:

I've been too busy betting on the horses to keep up with this - got a hot hand you know... Wait, what, you say the horse is dead?

Not a lefty, but Luke Diekevers, a 6'5" forward from Jenison long rumored to be heading to Hope, is heading to Hope.  His sign off on a "retweet" I stumbled across looks suspiciously like he has been hanging around a certain member of this board...  :D
