Not a lefty, but Luke Diekevers, a 6'5" forward from Jenison long rumored to be heading to Hope, is heading to Hope.  His sign off on a "retweet" I stumbled across looks suspiciously like he has been hanging around a certain member of this board...  :D

Let's hope that doesn't taint his character.  ;)

Alma College adding JR James, 6-5 transfer from Northwood. Played at Shelby (and Pentwater) in high school.

aka Jeremiah James, doesn't appear to have played any minutes for Northwood this past winter.  They list him as a Soph.

Phil Coke may be a candidate to take over.

I'm all in favor of the Tigers' cutting Phil Coke!

Oh, you meant a different Phil Coke. ;)

No, I meant that Phil Coke. Probably a better career move for him.

Holland Christian standout Kyle Steigenga has committed to be a Cornerstone Golden Eagle. @HCHSMensHoops

Even with little love lost by Calvin fans over the Cornerstone program, they can breathe a sigh of relief this kid is going to the other end of the East Beltline and not staying in Holland for his college hoops because he's a dynamite athlete at the small college level.

A very nice pickup for Hope. His numbers were down his senior year but I'm not fooled. This year he played with a team that had several players who liked to shoot the ball and Luke got fewer touchés than in the past. He also played for a new coach (David Kool) who had a more disciplined and patterned approach than Jenison ran in the past. A very versatile player who can score inside or out, and is a good interior passer too. The college hoopster he most reminds me of is Wheaton's Tyler Peters, but in a slightly larger package. Speaking as a Calvin fan, that concerns me greatly.

Precisely the kind of player I would expect Sam Hargraves to recruit. The kid is an excellent spot up shooter who can really stroke it from well beyond the three point line. If he develops some ability to put it in the floor too, he will be a quality MIAA player who could give Calvin fits.

Former Zeeland West forward Luke Dreyer has also committed to play for the Dutch. Skilled ball-handler for his size (6-6), athletically gifted and has an above average outside jumper.

Love this kid's game. One of the best unknown high school players in West Michigan last season. Very versatile player, very athletic, and said to be from a nice family too. He's not 6'6" though, he's 6'2" and I would peg him as a 2 guard in college. Reminds me a bit of Steve Cramer.

If he would have had a bigger senior season he could have been recruited by a bigger school, probably as far as D2. Saying he was 6-6 was more of an assumption than anything, because West played him at power forward and had him jump center. His defensive stats look small because he would often guard larger opponents. His brother Zach Dreyer played as a Hope jayvee 2 years ago also.

You would have thought he might have become more clever with his repartee his senior year.

Tony Canonie  PG  South Haven will attend Calvin

Tony Canonie   Perhaps he will be like the Neil boys, and start his bball season a little late each year.
"South Haven senior Tony Canonie broke a longstanding school career points record in Wednesday's 4-1 win over Berrien Springs.

A four-year starter, Canonie scored three goals and added an assist to bring his career total to 137 points. That broke the previous school record of 134. It was the second straight game in which Canonie scored three goals. He now has 16 this season.

"He doesn't play soccer like a lot of kids," South Haven assistant coach Charlie Hamlin said. "He's a three-sport athlete who doesn't play club soccer. He probably doesn't touch a ball from the end of our season to next August. Not many kids can do that without playing year-round. And he a true team player."
