Apparently the "gag" order has been lifted....and MN is allowed to return to campus to run the summer camps.  One piece I was not aware of- he "owns" the camp and it's techniqually not a Hope College function, simply run through their facilities.  Can someone confirm this nugget of information?

If Hope now charges him to use the gym what they charged the West Michigan Lakers when they used them for an AAU tournament, he's screwed!

That is an accurate piece of information, and a problem (depending on your point of view) with all the camps that I suspect will be addressed sooner rather than later.

So then what exactly happened?
Oh - I expect this board will be buzzing soon enough.

Maybe one of our resident law professionals can explain situations and scenarios where a "gag order" might be necessary and the purpose of such an order when two parties are involved in sensitive negotiations.

Purely hypothetical examples allowed of course.

Meanwhile a kid who had appeared to be a lock forever, Dante Hawkins, is looking at Dordt ...

Noooo - not a Dordt Wart - that's a fate worse than....  :-X

I'm told Dante is going to Dordt which is a great pickup for the Defenders. He will join West Ottawa's PJ Trammell who has already committed and will play both football and basketball in Sioux Center.

(sigh)

Go you Northwestern...

While West Ottawa's PJ Trammell has signed with the Defenders: http://www.dordt.edu/cgi-bin/news/get_news.pl?id=7389 I am now informed that Dante may be headed to Hope. If so, he brings a ton of quickness to the Flying Dutchmen backcourt.

Depends on what is meant by "gag order." In cases of painful separations it's common for the two sides to sign a non-disclosure agreement which may or may not include a buyout (many moons ago I actually drafted one). But if they can't agree on terms and none gets signed then either party can blab their mouths off if they so choose. I can't imagine an institution like Hope volunteering the reasons for Neil's departure but if no signed non-disclosure exits, that increases the odds that news about the separation finds it way into the public domain. A failure to agree on terms also increases the odds of a lawsuit since a general release is always a part of such agreements.

Thanks, OldKnight, and may it be so.  He would be a tremendously exciting player for Hope fans to watch over the next four years.  I only saw him play once, but the combination of his speed, shooting, and assists would drop a lot of jaws.  What a combo he and Ben Gardner and Chad Carlson could make.  I could see Ben Gardner again playing some time at the #2 position.

Surely news of coaching candidates (or an appointee) will emerge soon, and the new coach will soon be at Dante's door.

sac

Nick Tatu has transferred away from Trine.  That's a loss for the Thunder.

PS unlike what this says, Trine is in Indiana.

So Luke Diekevers is not going to Hope?

FWIW, JR James hometown is also Shelby, though I think he may have started his varsity career as a Pentwater 8th-grader under now Olivet assistant coach Steve Ernst.

Very well deserved! I am convinced there is not a single human being who has made a larger impact on Division 3 sports!

Article that touches on the scope of things Renner has done over the last 50 years...

I watched Steve play high school ball at Charlotte, coached by his father Jerry.  This whole off-season is like the twilight zone for me.
