The Hall of Supersweetness executive committee is currently meeting to discuss whether North Park should be forever referred to as North Park(Chicago).

Maybe only in the pre-season.

As opposed to the North Park in Saginaw, or the one in Traverse City, or the one in Azerbaijan?

Point taken.  I apologize I made you read that extra word.  Or could it be your logo offers a hint that people have had to ask in the past?  Its not like people ever get that stuff wrong...

Or maybe you were just trying to demonstrate your longevity versus my lack of posts.  There seems to be a history for that too...

If you want a good example of why new posters don't hang around much, its the -3 karma in about 8 hours time.   For these two posts that's just childish.

Quite the welcoming committee. ::)

So anyway, welcome to the board OnlyHope.

In the future I'll refer to North Park as NP so you won't have to strain your eyes or spend the time looking up how to spell Azerbaijan.

Point taken.  I apologize I made you read that extra word.

The snarky attitude indicates that you'll probably fit right in around here -- as long as you don't get too attached to your karma, since on the MIAA board the formula goes:

sarcasm : smites :: Pavlov's bell : dog drool ;)

Quote from: kzoo99 on June 25, 2014, 07:19:11 AMOr could it be your logo offers a hint that people have had to ask in the past?

No. The version of the North Park University logo that contains the word "Chicago" in smaller typesize is used by NPU for advertising purposes within Chicagoland. The reason why is because the school's small size, combined with the sheer humongousness of Chicago's metro population of eight and a half million people, means that NPU has a name-recognition problem. (So do the other D3 schools in the Chicagoland area, with the obvious exception of the world-famous University of Chicago.) In other words, it isn't because "people have had to ask in the past" if there's a difference between this North Park and some other North Park. It's to make Chicagolanders aware of the school's existence, period.

There aren't any other schools of higher learning named North Park in the United States. The reason why some schools have a parenthetical addendum in printed conversation is because there are other schools that bear that name. Within D3's ranks, f'rinstance, you can find Wheaton (IL) and Wheaton (MA). Here in the Midwest, we typically mean the Wheaton in Illinois when we use that word, so in the CCIW and MIAA rooms the parenthetical indicator usually isn't used. But you'd need to use it if you were talking to a Massachusetts D3 basketball fan -- or if you were engaging in a conversation in the baseball section of d3boards.com, because the Wheaton in the Bay State is more successful and better-known among D3 baseball fans than is the Wheaton in the Prairie State. Other examples include Westminster (MO) and Westminster (PA), Trinity (TX) and Trinity (CT), and Concordia (IL) and Concordia (WI).

Quote from: kzoo99 on June 25, 2014, 07:19:11 AMIts not like people ever get that stuff wrong...

They don't get it wrong here. MIAA fans are very familiar with North Park. MIAA schools have been playing NPU in men's basketball for over half a century. The Vikings have played four of the eight MIAA members in men's basketball within the past two seasons, and NPU has faced all eight MIAA schools in at least one sport over the last four years. In fact, the most recent MIAA school that NPU met on the playing field was Kalamazoo College, whom the Vikings swept in a softball doubleheader a little less than a month ago.

The bar's been set pretty low for North Park as far as pleasant November and December weather goes. There was at least one occasion last December on which the reported midnight temperature at O'Hare Airport, seven miles west of NPU on Chicago's North Side, was lower than the temperature on the surface of Mars.
