The MIAA's geographic midpoint is apparently a creek off Waubascon Road just North of Battle Creek,  not far from Bedford Valley Golf Club.   That is excellent.

The easiest way to avoid this would have been for the men to use the women's schedule and play men in one location, women in the other, byes on the St. Mary's dates.  The men's side of the MIAA reportedly shot that down, mostly because of having to start games in December.

Why can't this apply to just the Wednesday games, since that is the only day there seems to be an issue?

I'll use Hope as an example and set the Wednesday schedules for the women first, and build the rest of the schedules from there... A simple flip flop of the Kalamazoo and Calvin games would keep the rivalry games from happening simultaneously. Hope's schedule could look like below, with Wednesday games in bold and the men's game in parenthesis. Since Hope is scheduled to play OWU on December 3rd, both that day and the St. Mary's game could be used to finagle (create a double header, not play in December, move a rivalry to a better time,...)

I haven't had enough caffeine yet to deal with all the variables of a 9 team vs 8 team schedule.

Maybe I'll start a kickstarter for....

That is probably why the final two rounds of the MIAA Women's Golf championships is played there every fall.  ;)

I applaud anyone who has the brain power to come up with a solution.  I spent way too much time trying to figure it all out and always seemed to run into one problem or another.  It comes down to what you want to prioritize as you also have other issues that pop up:  runs of either home or away games in a row, unbalancing the order of who you play, etc.

My guess, too, is that if there were to be a solution where you could have both men and women playing the same opponent, there would be a push to play those games at one site instead of two.  Sending both the men and women together on one bus can end up saving quite a bit of money given the rising transportation costs.

It's an interesting course, that's for sure. Unassuming, and an old school design with tight fairways, lots of doglegs, copious bunkering, and small greens. Another poster on this board liked it less than I did, but it's a pretty good track.

I like the other four Gull Lake courses better than Bedford Valley, although Gull Lake West isn't too different. My favorite course by far in that area is Yarrow, which is not too far from BV. Terrific course. Play that opening hole into the wind and good luck to you. Yarrow is probably the favorite course in WM of both this poster and the aforementioned anonymous one. Other contenders: Pilgrim's Run, Stonegate, and The Medalist, just because it's close to Dark Horse Brewery. Attention, any of you who want to golf Harbor Shores: don't. It's an abortion of imaginative design. One of the most unpleasant golf experiences you can have, except the driving range which has brand new NXTs on it.

Seemed easy in my head, at least in theory. I then spent (and wasted) too much time trying to put it on paper. Between 9 teams v. 8 teams, starting league play in different months, and only 7 Wednesdays in January and February to work with, it is a much more difficult a task than I originally thought.

The simple solution is to keep the same schedule, and move the offending Wednesday 6pm games to Tuesday or Thursday 8pm.

Or simply alternate weeks (or years) of the midweek games being Tuesday men, Wednesday women and vice versa.

It gets much more complicated, but not impossible to cram the women's schedule into all January/February dates.  It would require using other days of the week besides Wednesday and Saturday, a novel idea several other conferences around D3 have discovered. (including at one time the MIAA :-X)

How did Wednesday become "THE DAY" for weekday games? In this community (West Michigan/RCA/CRC) Tuesday seems perhaps more convenient since Wednesday nights are typically big nights for church activities. Why not guys on Tuesdays, girls on Wednesdays and switch every other year? Schools can still schedule double headers (if they desire to do so) on Saturdays...

If you want to cut in half the times your staff can scout high school players during the regular season and opportunities for recruits to attend your games, then Tuesdays would be fine.
