Having graduated not too long ago from Calvin, I can tell you realistically that Calvin does not even come close to being one of the top 10 most sober colleges in the nation.  I guess if we're talking strictly for on-campus grounds, maybe, but even then is pushing it.

In a sort of "Hoss meets Hope College" moment, check out this episode of Bonanza when Ben Cartwright's second son meets a Dutch immigrant couple from Holland, Michigan. When they mention Hope College it almost seems they are on a western recruiting trip on behalf of Dean Kreps (Dan Blocker did play football at Hardin-Simmons). Start at the 20:30 mark and watch the next 90 seconds of dialogue. It's probably as much as you can take.

I watched other parts too and showed it to my wife who--and I say this without an ounce of exaggeration--is an expert on 19th century Dutch costumes. She labeled the women's outfits "a pathetic attempt at authenticity" though she did like the man's hat, saying it was pretty good.

We also had a good laugh at that, and their "Dutch" accents.

There's a robust conversation on the NESCAC board about Duncan Robinson with references to Spike Albrecht.  You Michigan fans might enjoy jumping in. :)
MIAA's been-there, done-that... Mike Gotfredson  :P

Wasn't Gotfredson a walk-on who eventually earned a scholarship?

Earned a spot at starting PG.  Those were some stellar UM squads.   ;)

I know I'm a bit late to the party with this, but finally it struck me today when I heard someone else discussing this...Gotfredson wasn't the only MIAA'er to make the jump to the B1G. There certainly is precedent for U-M unearthing some D3 treasures:

Rotolu Adebiyi = after a robust 2-outing effort for the Britons, he went on to join Mike G as a captain in "the golden era":

Ryan DeKuiper = "technically" included here, since he played JV for Hope his FR year, then went on to bigger and better things after GVW wouldn't give him any whiff of varsity tick:

Remember, Gotfredson isn't the only player to land in the B1G this year .  As posted several pages back, Richaud Pack - formerly of Adrian - will be playing for Maryland this year.

That is a league that features Hassan Whiteside, former NBA player and 33rd overall pick in 2010 and featured Mamadou N'Diaye, alson former NBA 1st round draft pick in 2000. Just a little fun fact for your morning. :P ;D

Olivet has posted their schedule.
http://www.olivetcomets.com/sports/mbkb/2014-15/schedule

Once again, pretty challenging.  The second game at Wheaton will be UW-Eau Claire or Washington-St. Louis,  probably EC.

Playing Mt. Union twice is not ideal.  Olivet will be big underdogs in a lot of these games, I think they will do well to have more than 3 wins come January

Now that the school year has started, did anyone not show up who was supposed to?

No one from the MIAA plays Davenport this year but they just picked up former WMU Bronco Bishop Robinson.
