How in the world can Jordan Brink have one FG attempt at halftime.   ??? ??? ???
double team. Every possession

I haven't seen this many bunnies missed since I bought my three year old a pellet gun.

Eidson is in a dark place right now.

Seems like a good idea, maybe.

Hope  80  Albion 55

I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've seen Albion give up 50 points in one half.  Good second half for Hope, but Albion played very poorly that half save for a brief run that cut the deficit from 19 to 9.

I think Albion's Corey Wheeler sat the entire 2nd half, he was 0-6 in the first half.  Albion played its worst defensive game of the year by a mile, sure Hope had at least something to do with that.

Benson 21, Gardner 16, Blackledge 12

Calvin escapes from Adrian with a W.  Not a work of art, and give Adrian credit for a tough defense holding J. Brink to 9 points.  Calvin gave up 15 turnovers so they can't compain too much. 61-49

Was gone most of the night and only saw the last two minutes on computer. Goodknight was there and gave me a front line battle report. Stout had an excused absence to visit grad school for an interview. If that doesn't speak loudly to the difference between D1 and D3, I don't know what does. What are the chances a D1 coach would let his starting center miss a conference game (or any game for that matter) for a grad school interview with first place on the line? It's one reason why I like college sports at D3 better.

I'm also told the fact that Jordan Brink was limited to six total shots was not an accident. Apparently he couldn't go to the restroom without a Bulldog defender on each side. May not be the last time he sees that kind of defense this year. Made two huge baskets with the game on the line though. Also led both teams in rebounds with 8.

Overall a very physical game with a curious call or two. Brad Visser swished a three with the ball going through the hoop as the 35 second shot clock horn sounded. Unfortunately for the Knights, the ref blew his whistle to call the violation before the horn sounded. I guess the students' call (3, 2, 1 . . . ) is the official 35 second clock in Lenawee County.

Jake Bagley went 6 for 7 from 3, 18 points for Trine at Kzoo tonight.

Blake Krum went 5-6 from 3, 19 points for Olivet at Alma tonight.

Happy Calvin Guy

Thought I'd comment on Calvin's newcomer Cam Denney. Observing him in several games now, I think his skill set could be a huge asset to Calvin this season in getting to that next level. He has great size and can mix it up down low, but his outside shot is true, ballhandling is solid, and his passing is superb. Also seems to have great basketball IQ--makes great decisions constantly, and seems to fit in the flow on both ends of the floor despite being brand new to our system.

Not much has been said about him or how he ended up at Calvin. Originally from Indiana, played college ball in Mississippi (perhaps on at least a partial basketball scholarship?), and then shows up at Calvin mid-sophomore year ready to play. Definitely a non-traditional path.I wonder if KVS had recruited him in HS? I hope he enjoys life and basketball at Calvin, he could have a very nice career here.

Not sure how Denney ended up coming to Calvin, although a well-connected Hope poster told me that the Flying Dutchmen recruited him during his high school days.

HopeConvert, I expect (and trust) that over time Denney's pastry will fall off the menu of his offerings. He doesn't need it, and it doesn't add to his overall game beyond a bit of flash. His steak-and-potatoes will be a very satisfying item as his career develops. Denney's bacon, eggs and pancakes would be a grand slam.
