Just a reminder to anyone interested that Hope's game starts tomorrow night at 6PM. I think the MIAA could use a lesson in the meaning of the word "equity."

It means something that has to do with these creatures, right?

HC wrote equity, not equine.

Isn't 'equity' just a contraction for 'equine iniquity'? ;D

(On stressed-out days before I retired I would sometimes joke to colleagues that 'student' was short for 'stupid rodent'.)

I was originally going to use this picture:

... since the Romans of the First Class who served as knights in the legions were called equites, which is a homophone for equity (except for the plural ending) and thus an even better pun, but the gif of the Regency-era gentleman flogging his deceased mount with a cane is as much a signature meme of this room now as are condiment dispenser pictures and obscure Frisian references.

Yup; but who was that somebody? ;)

Gregory Sager

I meant to say "spot-the-punner hat," which would've made a lot more sense.

I may be completely out of the loop and this maybe has also been discussed here and I just simply missed it,... but why exactly is the Calvin-Hope game on February 4 at 6pm instead of the standard 8pm?  Will it still be on WGVU?

Simple answer: In the odd years (2015), the women will play second when there is a MIAA doubleheader. Since it's a Wednesday night, the men will play at 6 p.m., followed by the women at approximately 8 p.m.

Long answer: Look back to previous posts!

I just took a look at the WGVU schedule on line, and it is showing the Hope@Calvin game being broadcast live at 6pm on February 4.

The world would be a much better place - indeed, the best of all possible worlds - if such references weren't obscure.

The issue with men's/women's scheduling on the same day was created, of course, by the addition of St. Mary's as an extra women's team . . . thereby destroying the symmetry of men's and women's schedules that enabled one varsity game (either men's of women's) every Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon.  That unfortunate decision also means that the jv games tonight at Hope will be played before virtually no audience in the college's Dow Center.

If only the men's and women's leagues could again have the identical number of teams . . .

KnightSlappy

I think we're all making too big a deal out of this 6 PM thing. We're talking about messing up the start times of 2-4 games per team every other year (assuming the 1 PM / 3 PM Saturday times aren't a big deal to anyone).

Just quickly going through the schedules, here are the number of 6 PM Wednesday starts for each team:

Adrian - 3
Albion - 3
Alma - 3
Calvin - 4
Hope - 2
Kalamazoo - 2
Olivet - 2
Trine - 1

Figure half those are on the road, it's really messing up your schedule to try to attend maybe once or twice every other season. Might be nice if they tried to get Calvin/Hope games at 8 PM due to the high volume of spectators, but otherwise I don't get the fuss.

HopeConvert

It's called dinner hour. Or, for some people, work hours.

Two games is two too many.

And what about the fans for the women's games?  They don't eat dinner or work?
