Two games is two too many.
James Thurber would agree. On the other hand, three are not enough. Or maybe he was referring to martinis. :-\

Eidson just made best three point shot of the year to close the half with Alma.  Check the video when you get a chance.  Definitely one you want to see.

A Calvin win tonight at Trine would give them a real advantage in the league race. Having already won at Hope and Adrian, a win tonight would put Calvin in the driver's seat.
Calvin has struggled at times at Trine, hoping they can put it together tonight.

A nice pull up jumper, not one of those typical half court heaves.

Gender equity is a "point of emphasis" for the current MIAA Board of Control.  Look for varying start times to trickle to soccer, lacrosse, and other sports where men and women share facilities.  SAC won't believe what's happen going to happen to golf in a couple of years.   I'm not promoting either side of the coin on this issue, but please know it's not exclusive to basketball.

Yup. With the games at DeVos and Merillat now in the books, it's the biggest game of the year in the MIAA--and not just for Calvin. A Knights win gives them a huge leg up on everyone. A Calvin loss puts a lot of teams in the thick of the race.

You mean to tell me this game counts?

In an upset at Kresge, Olivet comes from behind to stun Albion 62-58. The Brits collapsed down the stretch with turnovers, two of them in the final 80 seconds with the game on the line. First conference win for Olivet and Albion now is pretty much dead in the water.

Speaking of dead in the water, it appears that pretty much sums up Calvin's non-appearance in Angola, as the Knights get manhandled by the Thunder 62-47. This game wasn't as close as the final score indicates as Trine was up 26 at one point. A poor performance all around but Calvin lost the battle of the boards 39-32. We've got a race folks.

Trine just plain shredded Calvin today. Calvin couldn't hit when it counted and the Thunder dominated the glass for much of the game. Trine now owns the head-to-head over Calvin and Hope. The MIAA crown goes through Angola at this point.

An absolutely pathetic performance by Calvin's starting five. They combined to score 21 points and grab 11 boards. Bagley had 14 rebounds all by himself while Dixon scored 21 for Trine.

TUAngola

Just back from the Thunder Dome.  Trine with a huge win against Calvin tonight 62-47, which really wasn't as close as the final score indicated.  I think the last 5 minutes of the 1st half and the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half were big for us.  I don't know the exact statistics but Trine had a run at the end of the half and then scored at least the first 12 points of the second half to go from 29-18 to 41-18.  From there it was a matter if Calvin was going to hit enough shots to get back in it...and they didn't until the game was just about over.

Keys to the win was defense, rebounding, and Trine's hustle and ability to get the 50/50 balls.  I haven't seen a team out scrap Trine yet this season at home.  Winning on the road will decide who wins the regular season as Trine still has to go to Hope, Calvin, Olivet.....won't be easy.

Dixon with a big game...really the "big 3" of Dixon, Holmquist and Good all had their moments tonight...but Dixon...whooo boy.  Is there anyone quicker in the conference or has the ability to get to the rim like he does?  His crossover dribble is just sick....

Go Thunder!

Did the a team not from Michigan gain supremacy in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association? A mind boggling game as a Calvin fan...

Let me guess, the guys are going to hit from the red tees and keep their knees together when they bend down to retrieve the ball from the cup.

Fun league this year.

---Trine is a very good team, underrated on defense.  I've seen Wooster, Hope, Calvin, Trine and Ohio Wesleyan in person.  All very good teams with not much to separate them.  On any given night one or the other could beat anyone in that group.  Wooster probably has the best personnel of all of them.

---I'm not that shocked by Olivet's win, the Comets are better with Zielinski and Krum.  They aren't done winning.....and the Britons, what a collapse from the team I saw beat Elmhurst.

---Sam Hargraves has done a nice job putting Alma together.  Best looking Alma team since that one year when Ed Kohtala recruited 5 starters.  Anyway, they've got better size than they've had in a long time and several players who can shoot.  They still lack some key skill and the defense still isn't much.  Hope couldn't buy a 3 after starting 2-2, otherwise this might not have been so close.   Alma's become very shot selection oriented, they only took good one's tonight, especially behind the arc.  I'll say what I did at the beginning of the year, if they can get past their youth they have a good shot at a top 4 finish.  They get everyone back for next year.

---Speaking of Sam, he deserved a 'T' or even two tonight.  I didn't mind the constant griping at officials, it meant he wasn't coaching his team.  I think he was working hard for a T in the middle of the 2nd half

---Alma played a lot of that game without some key offensive guys because of foul trouble.  Esp. DJ Beckman and Doug Bradfield.   Hope was very aggressive inside and it cost the Scots who like Olivet just couldn't really defend inside without fouling.  That zone made Hope work though.  Hope really crushed it when Eidson, Benson and Blackledge got inside.  Unfortunately Hope's own foul troubles kept that lineup off the court a little too much.  Alma made two nice runs in this game in both halves, almost sure both occurred while Hope had to sit one of those 3 guys.

---I might be the only one who doesn't mind 6pm starts

You won't see Chris Coles on the sidelines when the Comets roll around.....http://olivetcomets.com/sports/mbkb/2014-15/releases/20150120vtq6ls

Best of luck to coach Coles in his recovery.
