It's rather interesting that after several years of tall recruits, this year seems to be bringing in huge numbers of guards and not one player so far that is taller than 6' 5".   It's probably just a normal variation, but it is quite a change from the last 2 years when there more tall players around the league than in recent memory.

Calvin's 2015-16 schedule is up:

http://www.calvinknights.com/sports/mbkb/2015-16/schedule

-Only 1 home game in November and December

- first 3 league games in January are all away

- 2nd home game isn't until January 16

- Grace Bible is back on the schedule

My guess is that Jan 6 at Trine is supposed to be listed as a home game. Jan 30 is also listed as at Trine.

Also notable is that Calvin is only scheduled to play three more games at Van Noord (8) than they will at De Vos (5). One could cook up a postseason scenario in which Calvin ends up playing more total games in Holland this year.

One correction - the Timothy Christian grad coming to Hope is Robert McGivney (Randy is his dad).  He is 6'6" making him the tallest recruit thus far.

Good to see Finlandia off the list, but disappointed that Grace Bible has returned and nothing is ever exciting about a Manchester game. The D3hoops.com Classic should yield some exciting matchups once the pairings are finalized.

Here were some of the other D3hoops Classic participants:

A bit of early 2015-16 schedule news. Calvin will be a participant in the D3hoops.com classic in Las Vegas. Also participating are Whitworth, Mary Hardin-Baylor, Pacific Lutheran, St. Vincent, Ramapo, UW-Stout and one spot still up for grabs, so Calvin will have two of those teams on their schedule.

Whitworth or Mary Hardin Baylor would be fun (and frightening), St. Vincent could have regional ranking implications, and I'd like to see Calvin avoid Ramapo and UW-Stout (who will likely end up with suppressed numbers due to the strength of their conferences).

The Hope schedule I have (unofficial) has the Hall of Fame games at Cornerstone.  Cornerstone should be in line to host.

2009--Hope
2010--Calvin
2011--Aquinas
2012--Cornerstone
2013--Hope
2014--Calvin
2015--Aquinas

....not to throw a wet towel on your collective excitement at playing so many games in Holland next Winter. :)

Our preferred pairings got approval from the organizers but we are waiting to finalize game times before releasing the schedule. Hopefully soon. You'll be satisfed with the pairings, I believe.

Gotta get Grace Bible back on the schedule now that Jordan Brink and co. are gone. Capitalize on easy wins wherever you can.

For the record, the last time Calvin played Grace Bible without Jordan Brink on the roster (sans his medical year)......

Grace Bible 83  Calvin 68........Grace also beat them in Jordan's Freshman season.

I'm guessing that Calvin couldn't find a d-III opponent willing to travel to Calvin.  This was a way to get 1 home game in the non-league season.

An easy win that has no value in the eyes of the selection committee?

That seems to me to be the likeliest explanation.

It will be interesting to see how Calvin's SOS ends up at the end of the season. Some of us have talked about trying to schedule tougher opponents, but there's only so much you can do, especially in a year where you're already on the road so much.

Going to Ohio to play two regional teams
Going to Holland to play two CCIW teams
Going to Las Vegas to play two D3 teams

It has to be really hard to get a quality regional D3 team to drive up to Grand Rapids to fill a weekday opening.

Yeah, and Grace Bible had Al Durham who got offered a tryout with the Celtics at the beginning of this NBA season but was already in Israel playing for a team, along with a great guard corp that year. Calvin also had a sub par team. You guys can think what you want, I'll stay in the real world. I'm sure you guys think we should have kept Trinity on the schedule too. NAIA and NCCAA schools do literally nothing for our schedule. From the mouth of an individual on the selection committee, if Calvin hadn't won the league in 2012-2013 they wouldn't have made the NCAA tourney, due to the fact that we played so many NAIA schools and under achieving competition. Take a cue from the volleyball program, go seek out the top competition, don't always expect them to come to Grand Rapids.
