Speaking of tourneys, has anybody else noticed that the annual CCIW/MIAA classic tourney that will be held at DeVos this coming season is now officially called the Midwest Challenge? I'm not sure I like the new name, since St. Norbert, Beloit, Lake Forest, Monmouth, and their ilk have nothing to do with it. Plus, the name sounds a bit pedestrian. I wish they'd have dubbed it something that had more flair -- the Battle of Lake Michigan, for example, or the Cross-Lake Showdown, or something like that.

Maybe ESPN8 picked up the broadcasting rights and insisted on a "re-branding".

Oh yes please, I love the programming on The Ocho

Calvin's schedule now includes an exhibition game at Northwood on Tuesday, November 17. I believe this game will count on Northwood's slate.

Any early predictions for the league? I feel it's a good time since we now know the incoming freshman.

Mine are:
Hope-Didn't lose much
Calvin-Strong front court but no Brink
Trine- Will Dixon is the best guard in the league
Alma- Strong returning talent
Kazoo- My sleeper. Really good sophomore/junior class
Albion- Nobody knows who will end up playing, but Herron is good!
Adrian- Got some good pieces Ricky Jackson
Olivet- Who's even there head coach??

I would say this is a very fair assumption. Although I am quite biased, I would say Calvin had a strong enough year in recruiting, putting them a little bit higher than Hope.

Hope is loaded for the coming season.  They are a top 10 team in D III.  Hope should be a contender for a National Championship.

Calvin has some talent but it is not very experienced.

Hope should be good, but I think they're a post player or two short of being a legit top 10 D3 team.  :-\  The other side of that coin is I think they'll be a little less shy about playing Sam Otto from the starting line this year..

Its possible Trine will have the two best players in the league this Winter with Dixon and Holmquist.  I hear Holmquist is working really hard this summer to have a great Sr. season.

I'm really hoping Robert McGivney can contribute right away. If he can just put in a few quality minutes off the bench for Brock and Harrison, I think they should be solid.

Definitely possible. Although I think Brock and Harrison will both have something to say about it.

Let's go Dutchmen!

Hope - Should be the deepest and most versatile  team in the league. And Brock/Harrison could be something special this season.

Trine - When was the last time a tandem from a school not named Hope or Calvin was as scary good as Holmquist and Dixon?

calvin - Rebuilding year. Expect them to struggle in December/January, but wouldn't surprise me if they make a push in the conference tournament.

Alma - Fun team to watch. The very bias part of my brain wants me to put them ahead of calvin.

Adrian - Coach White might be the classiest coach in the MIAA. And Ricky Jackson Jr. should have a little more help this season.

KZoo - Should be better than last season. Still, at least, a year away from competing with the top teams, IMO.

Albion- Herron... then who?

Olivet- Poor Olivet. Coming of 2 conference wins last season and they lost their best player.

To me, easily 2004-05 Albion (DePree/Crawford), although an argument could probably be made for 2008-09 Olivet (McClary/McClary).

I agree with everything posted. Couple Comments though.
Hope will be a Nat'l Title contender. Lost Nobody!
I just don't see how Calvin puts up a lot of points without Brink.
Trine could wind up beating Hope. SOLID team.
Alma and Kzoo are both young! Alma has Beckman and Bradfield who both had excellent frosh years
and Kzoo has Hugan and Carson with solid freshman years for a bad team. Along with Whitney, Miller and Dykema.
Adrian Albion and Olivet are all wild cards for me. Nobody knows who will suit up for them
