New roster of the day - Olivet (just one big list of 34 guys - no Jake Zielinski):

I think Matt Powell played for Laingsburg Christian.  I do not believe they are part of the MHSAA and play in the "home school" tournament.

Aha. Didn't know there was a Laingsburg Christian, probably because they aren't in the MHSAA. Learned my one new fact for the day which means now I can go golfing.

17 guys on the Calvin varisty roster - seems "out of character" for KVS - my recollection is a 14 -15 man roster most years.  Thoughts?

I can't remember ever seeing this many, but my memory only goes back a decade or so.

I'm guessing KVS has about 12 guys he's comfortable with on Varsity and isn't really sure what he has in 13-17 yet. I'll bet a couple end up playing mostly JV by the time December comes around.

I think only Parks, Daley, and Welch have started games for Calvin.

Can't remember seeing this many either and my memory goes back more than a decade. I suspect your surmise is correct; as we get into the season some of the freshmen currently listed on the varsity roster will prove to be JV players. Will be an interesting season for the Knights as someone (or two) will have to step up in order to make this a successful year. My gut tells me we will be observing a learning process for Calvin basketball. I will be very surprised if they finish second and they might struggle to qualify for the conference tournament. Does offer some opportunities to players about whom we know little.

Yes.  Hope has a luncheon on Monday as a kick-off for "winter" sports - all the coaches (M & W Basketball, M & W Swimming, M & W Tennis) will be speaking.  Wouldn't be surprised if that's when the rosters get posted, but of course it could be sooner

OK, the kids nowadays call that a TIL, which stands for "Today I Learned ...". Since I'm guessing that you didn't know that, this will make two new things you've learned today -- which means that you can avoid the computer altogether tomorrow and hit the links right after breakfast. ;)

Not that FDF expressly conveyed any of these ideas, but it should be noted that receiving the 41st largest number of voting points does not make Calvin ranked #41, nor does it mean the voting constituency collectively consider Calvin to be the 41st best team in Division III.

Thanks for the catch FDF.  I have to keep last year's players around to calculate last year's team cumulative stats.  But I've updated the CLASS for each returning or new player.  So those three snuck in.
