Ryan Skowronek had a pretty serious back injury last year - the kind of injury that could be career ending which might be the case here.

Coach Mitchell at the Hope sports luncheon today said they had decided to keep all the freshman together to give them plenty of playing time and opportunity to adjust to the college game and each other.  IMHO that's a great approach considering you will have 5 seniors to replace a year from now. Hope has been extremely successful with developing kids in their JV program in the past.

Cornerstone came out on top 84-69. Not a bad showing from the Scots who are likely far behind in practice hours and the like.

Harrison Blackledge, Hope  -  210
Zach Littleson, Hope  -  210
Gus Meriwether, Alma  -  207

These stats are really interesting in that it seems as if Hope and Calvin have had the tallest and possibly the heaviest players in much larger numbers than the rest of the league for years.  Now Kalamazoo and Alma seem to have that distinction.  It will be interesting to see how that impacts the result, but I think the league will be much more competitive for a variety of reasons, including the size  comparisons.

I imagine he'll work some Frosh in when he can.  You don't adjust to the college game by only playing JV ball.

Cornerstone is NAIA II's pre-season #1, Indiana Wesleyan is #2.  Nice first game of the year match-up at IWU when these two meet Friday.

The Albion roster seems to continue this year's trend toward more size around the league.  I notice one player is 6' 11" and 325 pounds. and another 6' 8".   The question is--are they players or just big bodies?

Cornerstone looked like the Scots on steroids, very effective offense and played good defense as well. Having four 40% plus 3 point shooters makes them really dangerous to defend, along with size to defend the inside. Just about 60 three pointers shot combined in the scrimmage.

With all the rosters out, here is a summary of the teams based on returning players.  Overall the league appears to have significantly more upper classmen (Jr & Sr) than I can remember in a long time.  Last season there were 35 Jrs and 25 Srs in the league.  This season it's 45 Jrs and 29 Srs.  Let's hope that leads to a better non-conference record for everyone!!!
