Since Alma's not supplying a broadcast, NPU made a last-minute decision to send yours truly here to Art Smith Arena to call tonight's game. You can listen via these links. Sorry, it's audio only.

And a #1 spot on SC Top Ten

According to the Calvin website Hope will be streaming the games this weekend.  Thank you Hope College.

Tonight's game against Carthage should be of added interest for Knight's fans given that Brad Visser left the team. I'm curious who will begin the audition for the starting 2 spot.

Nate Drews is a better shooter anyway.

Maybe KVS adds Wilks to the starting lineup and bumps Daley to the 2 spot. Siegel probably is pushing for more time in the post, so that would kind of slide everyone down a spot on the size chart.

Cam Denney is in street clothes during shoot around so should be a fun game with 40% off the previous starting lineup out.

I was not able to make it to the game, but it appeared to me that Mike Seigel ended up being the player to make the most impact among the taller players and that Wild played a big role.  Who were the new starters?

The guys who do the play by play for the Hope broadcast do a really nice job.  Obviously a little bit of homing for the Dutchman but not too badly and fairly balanced overall regarding the play of the Thunder.  A really tough loss for Wheaton tonight.

Hope--ahead the whole game--commits crucial turnovers and loses to Cornerstone . . . a game they should have won.

Wheaton, ahead essentially the whole game and by 6 with 90 seconds to go . . . commits two turnovers to a determined Hope team that, even with its two top scorers injured or fouled out, sends the game into overtime and somehow had the grit to win.

Wheaton, Hope feels your pain . . . it was a game you shoulda won, on a night when Hope went 3-24 on 3-point shots and Wheaton went 10-20. Wheaton was a better, quicker team than I expected.

Special credit goes to Stuive, Hawkins, and O'Brien who stepped up with crucial steals, blocks, and baskets when Hope's chances seemed akin to Green Bay's at the game's end last night.

Wow. What a game.

Hope was honestly not very good for long stretches in this game. It also seemed like Wheaton could not miss all night long. Smith in the block and Samuelsson from long range were unguardable for Hope.

Hope clawed its way back to a 3 point deficit at 58-55 with about 7 minutes to go, but back to back 3's by Wheaton kept the Dutchmen at bay up until one of the craziest final minute and a half sequences I have ever watched.

In the last minute and a half, Wheaton was up 7, made every shot that it took, and still needed a missed Dante Hawkins free throw with 3 seconds left to force OT. How you ask? The Mitchell O'Brien factor. The junior scored 10 points in a 65 second span to turn a 7 point deficit into a 1 point lead.

Then add a three pointer by Wheaton and an And 1 by Hawkins and you get the wild finish that seems to happen quite often in this challenge. I was reminded of the Will Bowser crazy three point buzzer beater to force OT vs Carthage in 09. Or the late comeback by Hope against Wheaton in 2011 at Calvin. In this event, something fun and exciting seems to always be in the cards.

If we are being honest, Hope should not have won this game. They got out played for most of this game. Somehow, they dug deep and got it done. One of those games that should look good on the resume come March. This Wheaton team will continue to improve all year and might be able to compete with the top level of the CCIW.

Wow.

Its a great day to be a Dutchman!
