Due to my past postings related to Hope's long winding road to video, would it be ungrateful of me to start requesting video archives?   Too soon? :)

Far from too soon. This may be upsetting, but the archive does exist... it's simply private. Why? I couldn't tell you as of now. Let me look into it.

I am sure I know the reason for the secret archive... Hoopsville blog coming this week (ranted a few weeks ago on air) LOL.

D3hoops.com poll:  http://d3hoops.com/top25/men/2015-16/week6

Hope  #9
Alma  #21
Trine   ORV

A case could be made for Alma being ranked ahead of Mt. Union I think.  Alma has a better poll win (and best win) over #9 Hope vs Mt. Union over #12 Chicago and 3 of 4 losses rank better than Mt. Union's on massey.   Alma, Mt. Union and North Central are the outliers with 4, 4 and 5 losses so little to complain about.

I can't remember if Kzoo ever got a vote back when they had the Rheinhold's and Phillips, it seem like they might have.  Also can't remember if the Olivet teams with the McClary's received votes.   If they both did then I think all 8 MIAA teams have now received votes in the poll at some time.

Don't want to press my luck with the powers that be.  :-X

GreatScot!?

Very excited to see that Alma is ranked 21st, which is the first time in history! The program has come a long ways in Hargraves tenure and hopefully the team does not get complacent with the results thus far. Still not sure on the potential of this team, originally I thought they had a good chance to win the MIAA tournament, but it looks like this team can do a lot more! Tough test this Wednesday in Angola.

I do know that 'K' was in the rankings back in 2003 after beating Wooster in their tournament - http://www.d3hoops.com/top25/men/2002-03/week5.  I thought they may have been ranked the year before, but couldn't find them in the archives.

I thought so but couldn't remember.  +k

My apologies to the Rheinhart brothers, and Judge Rheinhold.

Way back in 2004, while I was attending Hope College, there was a game in which Hope beat Calvin 96-75. At one point, us in the "Dew Crew" started chanting the ultimate burn, "WORSE THAN ALMA!!"...

12 years later it's not an insult, just a fact.
Let's go Dutchmen!

I can remember a time or two when both the Hope and Calvin students have chanted "Alma, Alma, Alma" at the other when the other had lost to Alma, probably in the 90's.

yes, Hope is worse than Alma.

I like how no one on this board is commenting on how disappointing Calvin is this year. I know I have been on a hiatus from bringing logic to this board but really? 7-8 with some unacceptable losses mixed in, looking at an under .500 record in the face for the first time in more years than anyone cares to remember. With the facilities, the academics and the history the program has, it is completely unacceptable to be performing at such a poor level. Recruiting should never be an issue with the resources available. I'm sure someone will bring up the level of talent that graduated (good programs should always have guys to step up), the guys who left (Vanderbrug is a legit loss, Visser was a poison on the court, all one had to do is show up to an open gym to see that) but regardless of all this something has to change or Calvin can expect to fall into oblivion in terms of their men's basketball program.

TUAngola

Final from Hershey Hall:  Alma 96 Trine 91 OT

All I can say is...wow...one of the best games I've seen.  If you like offense, 3 point shooting, epic comeback only to falter in OT.  Props to both teams.

Alma...the real deal!!  By far the best team I've seen this year.  They all can shoot, but it's the unselfishness, the extra pass, best passing team I've seen in quite a while.  And when the 3 wasn't available they dribble drove with Nikodemski and Gernaat for either a bucket or a free throw opportunity.

Trine...the first 15 minutes was awful...but that had a lot to do with Alma.  The last 35 minutes was amazing.  To come all the way back from 32-9 down.  Once the offense got rolling we were getting just as good of looks as Alma.

Had the ball with 20 seconds to go down by 2.  I wish we would have went for the win...the way we were shooting 3's I would have banked on Malone or Dodson taking the shot for the win.  But, Dixon had an open lane and nailed the bucket to send it to OT...

...where TU just ran out of gas.  That is another area where Alma is better, they are deep, rotate in 4 guys and don't lose a thing.  The young Beckman can shoot.  But the marksman of the night was clearly Malone of Trine, he was bombing from 25+ deep.

Still way, way too many turnovers, and it's the most experienced guys who turn it over tonight, Holmquist and Dixon.  A few less empty possessions and who knows, maybe a "W".  Just expended so much to get back in the game.  All those times you thought we'd get over the hump and Alma would come down and bury a 3ball.

Congrats Alma...well deserved!  Your ranking is no joke, I was very impressed!
