Alma and Olivet could put big numbers on the scoreboard tonight.  Alma should win comfortably but Olivet has some guys that can make 3's if you give them space and Alma's 2-3 does that occasionally.   Thinking something like 105-75 or 85

Top offense(Alma) vs worst defense (Olivet) ....free haggis if they hit 100 up there?

On the lighter side--and as we await tomorrow's rivalry game--I see sac finally returned that book he borrowed from Herrick:

It amazing how much reality is now based on Seinfeld episodes.

Nice first half for the Knights.  Just need to keep it to a 9 point lead or less.

No chants of "We love Daley" from the Dew Crew tonight. He played outstanding.
Let's go Dutchmen!

A nice effort by the Knights who played hard but they needed more than two people score if they were to win. Players not named Daley or Denney shot 6-27 from the floor and that won't do it. To be fair, most Hope players not named Gardner didn't play particularly well either. Other than overall shooting percentages, the stats for the two teams were virtually identical.

At 3-4, Calvin now faces the very real possibility of falling out of the race for the post season tournament. Saturday will be their third straight road game, this one against Trine in Angola, a place where Calvin almost never seems to play well. Alma is very much in control at 7-0 and a win at DeVos next week should decide the race.

It was a more competitive game than I expected it to be.  Any hope that Calvin had to win fell by the wayside when Cam Denney lost control of the ball on a dunk/layup at the 3:40 mark of the second half.  If he had made it, Hope would have led by 3. Hope scored the next 6 points to put it away.

Another key sequence in the second half was the 5 point trip down the floor following a Calvin turnover. Brushwyler scored, Daley got called for a foul, Otto made the first FT and Hope got the offensive rebound on missed 2nd FT.  Blackledge buried a jumper and the lead went from 5 to 10 on one trip down the floor.

Jordan Daley and Ben Gardner were both very good for each of their teams.  Cam Denney also shot well from beyond the arc.  I also thought Brushwyler really did a nice job off the bench for Hope.

Two portions of the game hurt more. In the first half Calvin went over six minutes without a field goal, turning a 22-15 lead into a 29-25 deficit. The Knights were trying to play catchup the rest of the way. In the second half, after cutting the Hope lead to two points, Calvin made bad turnovers on five of six possessions, allowing Hope to build a ten point lead. Though Calvin got back within four, those empty possessions were the death knell.

Administration strictly mentioned to students before the game that any mention of Jordan in any way would result in immediate ejection. This is likely due to the altercation that occurred at the end of last year's MIAA championship game.

Thinking back to Ben Gardner and Jordan Daley's freshmen experiences with the rivalry.  They've come a long way.
