Word on the street is that Alma has picked up a commitment from 6-3 slasher Ben Lubitz from Mio. Was a 2000 point scorer in high school, and has been mentioned in Mlive articles as being "on the bubble" for the Mr. Basketball watch list.

Don't know anything of the kid personally, but sounds like a nice grab for the Scots.

Anyone else having trouble with live stats from the Alma game?

Alma 70 St. Norbert 64.

To avoid problem with live stats, and or video feed it often works to switch to another browser.  Firefox had no problems.

Another really nice win for Alma tonight as they advance to the Elite Eight.  Great to see them representing the MIAA so very well.  Go Scotts!

FINAL:  Alma 70, St. Norbert 64.  WOO HOO!  A former doormat going to the elite eight! :o ;D

Only glitch in the Cinderella story is that their likely next opponent is a former so-so team representing a doormat conference.  (Benedictine is having by far their greatest season ever and represents the NACC which was 4-26 in the tourney entering this year.)  Benedictine probably beats out Alma for the role of Cinderella; against the CCIW (a conference neither team has historically had much success against), Alma was 3-1, but Benedictine was 5-0.

Since I grew up in Illinois, and Benedictine is an annual non-con opponent of IWU, but I've lived well over 2/3rds of my life in Michigan, I'm gonna be a neutral observer.  Good luck to both, and NO injuries, and may the winner keep it going in Salem!  (This all assumes, of course, that Benedictine doesn't get tripped up by a very good OWU team, who also beat IWU.  IF OWU wins, the heck with the IWU loss, I'm a Scot all the way!)

I'd pay to watch a Benedictine vs Alma quarterfinal game.

Unfortunately, circumstances beyond my control will prevent that from happening.  Best of luck and Go Scots!

Question from a guy who is now far removed geographically from MIAA action, but follows this board to remain in touch...

just curious.. had Jason and DJ Beckman followed their Dad to Hope, rather than going to Alma, what would their role have been with the Dutchmen...would they have moved people out of the lineup, would they have accomplished at the level they have reached at Alma, would they have made Hope a better team?   I've never seen them play except on the internet, I'm just wondering how regular posters think they would have fit in this season....

Can we piggyback on this and add Holmquist to Alma into this conversation?

I think it would be very difficult to find a great hypothetical answer to this...

Sorry... I didn't want this to be taken negatively.. Dave Beckman was everything good about Hope Basketball back when Hope hoops was everything to me... that's why I ask the question....
