17-14 if I have the years right as 1984 to 1996, that included a long stretch where his teams won 14 of 16 with some really historically excellent teams.
He lost his first 5 and his last 5 against Hope when Hope had historically excellent teams.
Which Hope and Calvin coaches won national championships?

Douma and VandeStreek for Calvin, I don't believe any from Hope have won national championships.

Thank you mk! It's been a while since I've allowed myself to follow a back and forth to the point where it reaches the inevitable "where's your banner!?" conclusion... Good to see some things never change :)

Kind of disappointed you didn't use the opportunity to provide the easy and obvious correction to MK's statement:  Sue Wise and Brian Morehouse.

Given the last few posts this seems timely, but it wasn't meant to be that way.....

Wed.  January 25,  Hope at Calvin
Sat.  February 18,  Calvin at Hope

MIAA rotation is the same as last year on the men's side with locations flipped.  If we're still doing that  odd year men go first thing on double-headers nights, Hope will have at least two 6pm Wed. night starts at home.  One vs Kzoo and the other vs Alma.  Plus two other Saturday home dates with both the men and women.

The women's MIAA schedule is different than last, so no Hope/Calvin M/W back-to-back games next year.

Piecing together a little bit of Hope's schedule through others......

Hope will open next season over in Wisconsin again.  This time at UW-Stout in Menominee.
http://athletics.uwstout.edu/schedule.aspx?path=mbball

On Friday Nov 18th they'll play UW-Stout, on Saturday Nov 19th they'll play UW-River Falls at Stout.

On Dec 29th they will play at the Mt. Union Classic possibly against a traditionally good opponent from the Northeast Region, on the 30th Hope will play Mt. Union.  Olivet is the 4th team in the Classic.

HOPEful & others -

It looks like both HOPE & ALMA will be strong again - where does CALVIN fit in the mix. It seems they will have Denney & Wilks and not many other impact players. Most of the carryovers, JV guys and incoming Freshman appear to be role players who may not have much of an impact. They also appear to be very thin at guard without any experienced returning guards? Also, any chance Vanderbrug or Holesinger will be playing again - Vanderbrug is clearly an impact player but sat out last year after a very promising freshman season.

Where do the Knights fit in & will any of their newcomers make an impact?

From last year's squad I would expect significant contributions from Canonie, Welch, Drews and Siegel.

I think calvin next season is a little bit of an enigma. They will certainly have size with Welch - 6'8", Wilkes - 6'5", and Denney - 6'7". (Side note, my biggest fear as a Hope fan is that one of these days Denney is going realize he's 6'7")

There's certainly an opportunity for someone like Tony DeWitte to come in and contribute right away as a freshman. (I'd bet he will... Tony and Tony?) Will they be able to keep up with the best guards in the league? I don't know. Welch, Canonie, and Wilkes did lead the knights in fouls last season.

I'm interested to see what Trine looks like without Holmquist, aka The Will Dixon Show

The M/W double header starting times is apparently unresolved.  Stay tuned I guess.

Of the guys on the board.  DeWitte will certainly be varsity and I think Trewhella and DeVries will likely be varsity guys.  Rinke possibly but it might be better for him to play JV ball.

Calvin has a bit of a log jam at the Fwd spots so its hard to know exactly who will play how much.  I would guess off the JV the Stout brothers along with Jacob Ray will get looks at varsity as well.  With the incoming Freshmen that's about 6 or 7 guys at 6-4/6-5

My bet would be Carlos Amoros is the starting PG next year.

I think Amoros could develop into a very nice D3 point guard. Perhaps as soon as this year if he spends the summer working on his three point shot.

The consensus seems to be that Calvin will have a tough time getting to 10-12 wins again next season especially with the lack of guard play. They seem to have some solid bigs and a couple of solid wings but very few impact players. Could be another long season for the Knights!

HOPE should be very good again and will be loaded at guard, in fact, two of Hope's incoming Freshman guards (Riley Lewis 5'11'' & Matt Zandstra 6'2'') could probably start immediately at Calvin and be impact players. They both are experienced scoring point guards (both were 3 year HS varsity starters and all-conference players each year) that both can play at a very high level. Zandstra is also an excellent defender that can guard 1s, 2s & 3s and played five seasons of high level AAU ball against Illinois & Indiana competition. They will bring outstanding depth to Hope and will be pushing Hope's other guards for playing time. It will be interesting to see how Coach Mitchell integrates all the talent and how much the bigs develop over the summer. Defense and rebounding will be Hope's challenge - shooting & guard play should be excellent!

No matter what - the rivalry will still be intense and the games will be close! Looking forward to another season of hoops. HK

Yikes, you're setting yourself up, my friend... never wise to go too far in demeaning the RIVAL... ;) ::)
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!
