I DEMAND A RE-COUNT!!!

The MIAA page that shows the standings for all sports (link below) has Calvin as the Women's Basketball Champions for this year - excuse me but Hope won the league by 2 games.  That means at a 2 point swing in the Women's standings, and Hope is the cup winner by 0.5 points!!!!

How do they determine points?

Great question - I've always assumed it was 9 points for 1st, 8 for second, ...  But that does not compute the same numbers the MIAA reports.  All I know is if they used the table they provided and counted Calvin as 1st in WBB and Hope 2nd, then switching them to the correct order has to change the outcome.

The PDF link they provided is definitely using the 2014-15 women's basketball standings.  That does not necessarily  mean they calculated the points incorrectly though.  However there's no way using the standings provided Hope should have a half point on the women's side, they tied with no one in any sport.(in the standing they provided)

Points 1st-9, 2nd-8 3rd-7 and so on.   In ties you add the two place points together and divide.  You count only 8 sports for the men 8 for women.

Using this math I do not get the same point totals as this http://miaa.org/miaaheadlines/2015-16_CommishCup

Also before bombarding the MIAA, they were made aware by other sharp eyed institutions of higher learning.

OK - so I think I figured out what happened.  They listed the WBB incorrectly, but apparently used the correct numbers to calculate.  The other mix up is they have the Men's total listed for the Women, and vice versa.  I get the following:

Hope Men - 61.5
Calvin Men - 62

Hope Women - 68
Calvin Women - 69

The outcome they reported is correct, they just had some item's mixed up

Unfortunately, at last word he's not planning to play basketball. A pity, as he would be a quality D3 hoopster.

There might be an intramural team or two at Calvin that would give the varsity a severe test. *sigh* ??? ::) :'(

Through my sources I have gotten word of Hopes non-conference schedule

Home:UW-Lacrosse, UW-Stevens Point, Spalding/Johnson&Wales (Holland Sentinel) Cornerstone/Aquinas (Hall of Fame)

Away: UW-River Falls, UW-Stout, John Carrol, Williams/Mount Union (Holiday Tournament)

Fifth and Putnam

Hope @ John Carroll is a juicy non-conference matchup. May have to make the trek over to Cleveland for that one.
