Anybody getting the live feed for the UWSP/Hope game working??  Disappointing that a big game like this and I can't catch a second of it yet.

Stevens Point 74  Hope 72

Hope lost a tough one tonight on Mark Nelson's jumper with :04 left.  Hope spent way too much of this game playing from behind and just never seemed to gain full momentum.  UWSP had really good shooting from its guards a combined 21-31 and 8-13 from the arc.  Hope couldn't really match that kind of production or efficiency.

Really the one glaring thing Hope will be disappointed about is a tough night shooting FT's that just seemed to kind of get worse and more tense as the game went on.  It felt like Hope was turning this game around from being down 10 early in the first half but leaving 11 potential points at the ft line really hurts in a close game like this one.

All-in-all though one of the better games I've watched in some time.

I know I'm a broken record on this, but it's really difficult to win games when you can't hit perimeter shots. Cam Denney (who had a terrific all-around game) was 3-5 from the arc. The rest of Calvin's team was 0-11. Despite this continuing woe, the Knights would have beaten the Thunder except Calvin made too many turnovers (often unforced) and suffered lapses in rebounding dominance. Much of the game Calvin was the stronger team on the boards but for a stretch of the second half Wheaton snatched repeated offensive rebounds, getting a total of 8 for the half.

Sounds like the Thunder really sucked against Calvin. Apparently very lucky for so many Calvin lapses that let them steal one.

Broken record no.  More like closed loop elevator music. :)   You say Calvin suffered "lapses" in rebounding the second half.  You should give credit to the Wheaton coach for doing what he is paid to do.  He made adjustments at half time that nearly deleted Calvin's +7 rebounding margin at the half.  Wheaton blocked 6 Calvin shots, and they did so at a critical time in the game.  Like you I think this is a game that Calvin could have, and probably should have won.  The real problem is much bigger than simply Calvin's inability to hit perimeter shots.  Please read the play by play of the second half starting when Calvin gets the 56-54 lead, and explain the 8 point Wheaton run before Calvin calls a time out.

assists are a tough stat.  It is a subjective call, for example, in the 5 games that calvin played that were not at Hope, they assisted over 60% of the fgs.  At Hope that rate fell to less than 25%, and their have been earlier threads on this board that show that the Hope scorekeeper is not very good.

Couple days late on my response, but so you know, the people who do the scorebook are not the same as the people who do the stats in college basketball games. If you've ever seen a scorebook, there's no columns for assists, turnovers, steals, blocked shots, rebounds, etc.

Albion lost to North Central by a score of 68-57.  They were outplayed in just about every stat, but they hung tough and kept it close.  North Central is a tough team, so it is hard to know whether to be encouraged or discouraged by the loss.  Didn't others from our league lose to the same team?

NCC preseason All-American Connor Raridon (17.7 ppg, 7.0 rpg) didn't dress for tonight's game at Albion.

I was at Albion tonight.

Albion hung around that is true.  Lots and too many empty trips for the Brits to beat a good team like NCC.  This was the Cards first game since losing Raridon and that's a big, big blow.  NCC looked like a team trying to sort out who was going to score, finally seemed to get better ball movement in the 2nd half that resulted in scoring.

Brits had it down to 6 with 6 minutes to play but NCC hit back-to-back threes and that was all she wrote.  Inconsistent scoring and a front-line that doesn't produce much is hurting them offensively.   I guess it would be right to say North Central had Jaylen Fordham wrapped like a blanket but Fordham didn't help himself much.

Albion did a decent job on Sorenson and he still got 14, but I only counted 2 buckets from inside the paint.   Albion would have had a very difficult time staying within 20 points with Raridon on the floor IMO.

Very fun to watch the 6-11 325lb Ryan Lowe matchup with the 6-8 Sorenson a couple times, Mr. Lowe is a very large man.  Lowe also was lead man on a fast break and made a nifty over the head, behind the back pass and that was just something to see.

Good win for the Scots today 97-87 against a pretty good Wheaton team. Wheaton went up 71-65 before a 16-2 run by the Scots flipped the switch.

Big number was 57% from the three point line. Edwards led the way with 19 and 6. Gernaat had 14 and 8. Stevens had 14 and 8 assists. Fairchild hit 5 threes tonight for 15.

Things are certainly starting to trend upward (as I think we all predicted) in Alma. I'm excited to see how the Scots do in Oregon next week!
