Wilmington 68  Trine 66

Hanover 81  Alma 67

Adrian 67  Baldwin Wallace 65   Nice runner by DaVonte Harris w/under a second to play for the win.

Guilford 70  Albion 56

Miami(Oh) 89  Olivet 69

The league has 34 wins and 46 defeats with only 6 more D3vD3 match-ups left.  Not a great year outside the league.

Albion trails Guilford by 9 early 2nd

Olivet trails Miami(OH) by 10 2nd h

If Albion result holds, the league will have 34 wins and 46 defeats with only 6 more D3vD3 match-ups left.  Not a great year outside the league.

Trine has only themselves to blame for their loss, missing 4 of 6 FTs in the final 20 seconds. :(

Millikin 68 Calvin 63.  Disappointed yes, surprised NO. :)
Like the Wheaton game on the 10th this is another game that Calvin should have won.  Millikin did what they needed to do to win so I give them credit.  Calvin once again failed to do what it needed to do to win.

Millikin out scored Calvin 39-15 from beyond the 3 point line. Gave up 2 offensive rebounds in the last 2 minutes that Millikin scored on.  From the video it didn't seem like a great effort.  Mike Siegel 19 points and 6 rebounds in 19 minutes of play.  Cam Denney awful shooting game and a terrible 3 point attempt when Calvin was down 4 with under a minute to go.

The disappointing thing was indeed the low effort level. Despite the poor shooting, It never seemed like a game they should have lost until the final two minutes. Not great.

A tough loss for Hope tonight . . . how they would like to have had Harrison available for 40 minutes of the 45 minutes instead of 23 minutes, and to have made one more free throw instead of 5 out of 12.

A shout-out to the 92.7 announcer, Mike Hohman (sp?), for his easy-to-listen-to play by play, for just the right mix of partisanship and professionalism, and for taking the time to travel to distant places.  He's good enough that I find myself listening to him while watching online (though the Mount Union video feed didn't enable one to pause and synchronize the radio and video as other video feeds have).

What happened with Keith Brushwyler tonight?  I see he received 2 technical fouls and got tossed from the game.  Losing him when Blackledge was in foul trouble had to hurt Hope inside.  Is he eligible to play tomorrow?

As many of you know, I'm long removed geographically from the MIAA, and am the main supporter of the SLIAC, a group of D3 schools mainly in Central Illinois and Missouri... I see A LOT of SLIAC games, and have seen Millikin in person 4 times vs SLIAC teams this year... the result was 4 SLIAC wins.   Guys, the SLIAC is LOW LEVEL D3hoops... I love it for the intense conference play, but the quality of SLIAC teams generally doesn't generate many quality non conference wins, which is to say, Millikin is not good this year... for Calvin to lose to a team at that level is mind boggling to me when I think of all the high ranking Calvin teams I've watched in the past.... Something's definitely off-kilter with that team.
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

On the flip side though, Millikin's last 3 games:

* Within 1-point of North Central (with Connor Raridon) w/ 7  minutes to play

* Won on the road at Rose-Hulman

* Beat Calvin on a neutral court

It's possible the freshman-dominated Big Blue are getting a lot better.

That said, yes, Calvin was an enormous favorite in the game vs Millikin -- based on where Millikin's program is right now (starting over with freshmen), this was a very surprising result.

Not sure where you got that info, but it is incorrect. Brushwyler had a single technical foul for slapping the floor and likely a choice word or two in disgust over a missed foul during his driving layup. He was not ejected from the game - his playing time was entirely a coaching decision. Honestly the effort from Dennis Towns defensively and on the boards earned him the 19 minutes he played.

The box score showed he had 2.  The play by play also showed 2 at 10:48 of the second half.  Thanks for the correction.

Milliken may be improving but it's still an ugly and inexplicable loss by the Knights, akin I think to Alma losing to Finlandia. I'm thankful I had a Christmas party to attend that got in the way of watching last night's game, but looking at the box score this morning, it appears that it was what we have seen all year--Calvin's opponent can hit perimeter shots and the Knights can't. Siegel and DeWitte were 5-7 from the arc but the rest of the team was 0-16. Not a single starter hit a three pointer yesterday. You just can't win that way. Calvin has played 10 games now and are shooting 27.4% from the arc; their opponents are at 39.8%. Yikes!

The NCAA stats are a week old now, but as of the last D3 statistical reading Calvin ranked 394th in the division in terms of three-point percentage. That means that slightly less than 95% of all D3 teams outshoot the Knights from beyond the arc. Since the Knights actually shot below their season average yesterday against Millikin, I doubt that their placement will improve during the next NCAA statistical ranking early next week, unless they light it up from distance this afternoon against Geneva.

What is up with the Calvin opponent Geneva?  On the video I see only a few lonely Calvin players shooting baskets.  Did Geneva have a problem getting there, or is the time listed wrong?

maroonandgold

I see Geneva has finally appeared.  Wonder if they had a problem with the change from the originally scheduled time?

It wasn't Geneva; it was the officiating crew. They were no where to be seen at the appointed 2:15 start time. ::)

Wilkes 76  Hope 74

Hope dug a big hole, trailed by 16 at the half, battled all the way back to tie it late but fall on a layup with 3 seconds to play.   Great shooting won the game for Wilkes but its awfully frustrating to lose another close game with double-digit FT misses.

Blackledge 27, Stuive 17

Hope travels to Albion next Wed., probably favorites to win the MIAA, but nowhere near the overwhelming favorite they appear to be.
