Trine 87  Olivet 65

For Olivet Shumpert, Donley, Terry, Lewis, Tsalkitzis started.   Shupert was playing his 6th game, Donley his 4th.  For Lewis that was his first start.   Eric Ewing is an all-MIAA type guy and entered the game after the 10 min mark.  Washington is close to all-MIAA entered with about 7:30 to play. I'm told these lineup changes were due to team discipline (i've edited this post)

For Trine's part the Thunder starting 5 really shot the ball well, esp. in the first half.  Though I think that needs an asterisk or something given the low quality of Olivet's starting 5 defense.  A lot of jumpshots went in though and the Thunder were red hot from behind the arc 11-20, about 10 of those looked uncontested, or it felt that way.  Dixon was really good as well.

Olivet went to its press and trap game in the 2nd half and made somewhat of a run from down 27 at its peak to around 12.   With most of the regular starting 5 playing more minutes the Comets were fairly even with Trine most of the way.

Trine:  Dixon 30, Dodson 16, Cizewski 11
Olivet:  Washington 16, Ewing 12

A good effort in a road environment that has not been kind to Calvin in recent years. They gave a strong effort for all 40 minutes and weathered a shooting barrage by the Scots to win 95-86. Alma shot 50% from the arc, but Calvin dominated the glass 43-31 and didn't give up many second looks when Alma missed. Wilks and Welch were especially good on the offensive end scoring 28 and 19 respectively (on a combined 27 field goal and 10 free thrown attempts). Denney (17) and DeWitte (12) also scored in the double figures.

That's a five game winning streak for Calvin who moves to 4-0 in conference play.

This kool-aid is kinda tasty....
Amigo:  How did the "kool aid" go down tonight after the 79-70 loss to (previously 0-4) Kalamazoo? :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :( :(
Terrible, KVS should immediately be fired and excommunicated.

Thanks for these shots, the game video we got from Albion didn't have Zahran's shot on it, because the cameraman didn't move the camera after Steven's FT miss! Thankfully we can now watch the final shot, heart definitely skipped a beat as he got the shot off.

GreatScot!?

Not sure what it is about Kresge, but it sure does have devastating effects on the Scots shooting%. The Brits were allowing open 3's all day for the Scots, who ended up making 33%. I guess there could be worse shooting nights, just ask Calvin or Olivet... Very proud of how this young team has played today, out rebounding and shooting more FT's than the Brits (can't remember the last time that happened)! Edwards and Gernaat were on a tear and proved a tough mismatch scoring 23 and 27, with Stevens scoring the game winner with 5 seconds left putting up a 10-8-5 on the day, geeze getting a win in Kresge sure is tough!

If you are willing to settle for last years 10-15 record fine by me.  :)   Personally with everything thing Calvin has to offer 20 win seasons should be the expected norm.  Other coaches at Calvin are able to get their teams to this level of performance so why should we accept less in men's basketball?
To get to the 20 win level Calvin must now win out in the MIAA, and win the MIAA tournament.
I am not going to get excited because Calvin finally wins a game over a team they should beat,  while recalling other games they should have won, but didn't :(, this season. :)

FWIW:  I am not the only one that thinks Calvin should have won the games against:  Aquinas, Wheaton, Millikin and Kalamazoo.

I bet I could find a lot of people who don't think Calvin should have beaten Carthage, Trine or Albion.  ;)

Referee, Jordon Jarret, pulled double duty yesterday.  He officiated the Hope @ Kalamazoo game at 3 pm.  He then moved over to Olivet and officiated the game against Trine at 5:30.
