GreatScot!?

Anyone know why Harris didn't play in the Adrian-Olivet game? Adrian definitely missed his presence yesterday.

About 4 or 5 paragraphs into this write-up its mentioned that DaVonte Harris was dismissed from the team.

Sad to see that happen to a senior.

What in the world is Adrian going to do without Harris? i doubt that there's a team in D3 that is as dependent upon one player as the Bulldogs were upon Harris.

Assuming he turns out to be good, Calvin is certainly lucky he doesn't love football more than he apparently does.  You could have been facing him for four years in Hope uniforms! :o ;)

Which raises a question I hadn't previously considered: I wonder how many good athletes Calvin loses in other sports because they don't have football?

When Preston Huckaby left Calvin at winter break, my first thought was that he might be pining for the gridiron.

(Much like the Norwegian blue parrot can often be found pining for the fjords.)

Calvin is certainly lucky his mom is the 3 time National Championship Head Coach of the Volleyball team at Calvin.

OldKnight - pass that Calvin kool aide to the rest of us; not sure what's in it but it must be good.

Hopefully, DeWitte (aka Curry/Brink) does not declare for the NBA draft until next year. It is exciting to see the improvement and a few threes but let's see a little consistency before we declare him the next Jordan Brink; especially in a mid season game. Brink was big in big games and consistent in all the others.

In reality, Calvin v. Trine was two very average teams playing a close and competitive game and one player hit a few shots. The teams play in slow motion and neither have won a game against a really good team. Hopefully, Calvin will continue to improve and the next game against Hope will be more competitive - it's great when Calvin actually has a good team that can compete against other good teams. MIAA is down this year and it would be nice to have three or four really good teams.

Harrison Blackledge played an outstanding offensive game against Albion Saturday night. He's a great shooter.

My complaint is with his interior defense. I sat near the floor, and I could see Blackledge make extensive use of "swim-stroking," where a defender hooks his arm between an offensive player's arm and the player's body, preventing movement. This is a foul, whether the ball is involved or not. In football it's called holding.

I've seen interior defensive players use this maneuver often this season, even though the NCAA announced before the season that it wanted better flow in its games and planned to emphasize allowing freedom of movement on the floor. How come it's not being called?

I don't know Hope's football team well, but are many/any two sport athletes on it?  Same question for a school like Wheaton.  My first thought would be that other sports programs don't miss out on very many athletes because there isn't a football program at Calvin.  The vast majority of kids have chosen a sport to "specialize" in by the time they reach the collegiate level.

If Calvin is a very average team, they've improved, because they were far less than average last year--and most of the pre-conference season too. As to the question of whether the Knights have a win against a really good team, Bosko Djurickovic might beg to differ with you on that.

The Koolaid is gone. The inestimable Mrs. OldKnight and I polished off the last remnants during the noon meal Sunday.

Of note following Saturday's game with Albion.

Chad Carlson (current player) went 4-6 from 3, raising his career 3pt total to 160.  This moved him past Chad Carlson's (current Hope JV Coach) 157, putting Chad Carlson (current player) into 3rd place all time.  He trails Ryan Klinger (163) and Joel Holstege (181) on the career list.  Chad Carlson (current player) is averaging 3.26 made 3pt per game this year.  IF he continues that rate, he would move into first place all time during the MIAA tournament.

He's going to come close to breaking the single-season records too:  62-143 right now

Most 3-point goals    84    Derek Van Solkema - 32 games    2007-08
Most 3-point attempts    207    Derek Van Solkema - 32 games    2007-08

Yep, that's a pretty good point. To be fair to Signor de Ypsilanti, however, he really shouldn't have been expected to be aware of that fact.
