That chest bump may have taken Hargraves out of the next Calvin coach mix.

That could be a red flag to any school that would consider hiring him.

This is the first tweet Hargraves sent out last night.  I would have thought it would have shown some sign of contrition for his actions.

We had that exact same discussion driving home from Alma yesterday. That incident just became part of a resume.

PS - just to be clear, my original post mislead some to think I meant the travel call was a bad call. I was referring to the entire game prior to that call.

Hope wins at Alma 76-71. Unbelievable officiating that concludes with Hargraves getting a late T, which caused him to chest bump the official (Parks) twice leading to him being tossed. Expect more repercussions from that to be coming. MIAA head of officials was in attendance.

Thought it would be on video better but it was a bit more than a "chest bump", charging bull is more like it.  Parks would have called a block on the bull.

Gotta say, my personal favorite is at the 1:25:10 mark where they change the charging call to a block, claiming Harrison was in the restricted area, when we was clearly a good foot or two outside it.

Harrison's 4th foul, at the 1:43 mark, is also a bit of a head scratcher. Even the announcers thought so.

Oh, and that "3-pointer" at the buzzer. Hilarious.

Calvin 83  Olivet 70

This was also a tough game to watch, there was a pretty brutal stretch in the first half with some serious ugly play from Calvin and one later from Olivet that spilled into the 2nd half.  Calvin got off to a nice start and led 17-10 before going scoreless for about 7 minutes while Olivet went on a 15-0 run to lead 25-17.  Calvin came right back with a 12-0 run of their own.  The Knights finished off the first half with a 6-0 run to lead by 4.

Non-Kool Aid drinkers will be interested to know Calvin adjusted nicely at halftime and back-doored Olivet 4 straight trips while also stretching the floor, making Olivet defend more floor and really pushing the ball up the floor on defensive rebounds and hitting Olivet on the break several times.  Their ball movement was noticeably better and the quality of their shots markedly better.  Calvin extended its end of first half play into the 2nd and led by 17 near the half-way mark.

.

Yes.  That adjustment going into the 2nd half was well done.  :)  I agree on Calvin pushing the ball up the floor, and considering the players that Calvin has would like to see it featured more.

Before the conference portion of the season started I figured the Hope at Alma game was the one potential road block to Hope running the table 14-0.   :)

Yup. Didn't help.

Considering all the "grace" shown during the past 21 seasons, perhaps there is "grace" sufficient for even this transgression. ;)

In Coach Hargraves defense, he's never used twitter as any kind of professional platform other than to thank the fans which he often does win or lose.

There was some ambiguity in my comment so let me clarify. When I noted "Didn't help" I was referring to the chest bump with the official as a possible factor in considering him for another hire. Sammy can coach--and recruit--there's no doubt about that, but contact with an official is never a resume' builder, especially at Calvin as arena's comment notes.

I believe Calvin would clinch an MIAA Tournament spot with a win over Alma on Wednesday.

Olivet and Albion could still tie them, but they're 2-0 versus Olivet and I believe they'd have the tiebreaker over Albion due to their 2-0 records versus Alma and Trine.

sac

Hope's 3 up with 4 to go, 3 of those at home and two against the 7th and 8th place teams.

Remaining games:
10-0  Hope  (Trine, @Adrian, Kzoo, Calvin)
7-3  Calvin  (Alma, Kzoo, @Adrian, @Hope)
6-4  Alma  (@Calvin, @Trine, Albion, Olivet)
6-4  Trine (@Hope, Alma, Olivet, @Albion)
4-6  Olivet (@Kzoo, Albion, @Trine, @Alma)
4-6  Albion  (@Adrian, @Olivet, @Alma, Trine)

2-8  Kzoo (Olivet, @Calvin, @Hope, Adrian)   --- realistically eliminated
1-9  Adrian (Albion, Hope, Calvin, @Kzoo)  ---eliminated

My eyes have told me the last 3 weeks it will be Hope, Calvin, Alma and Trine in some order.   Olivet and Albion aren't eliminated but neither has shown enough consistency to believe they can win at least 3 of 4 but I suppose its possible.

Next Saturday looks like the important day when things probably line-up  Alma @ Trine, Albion @ Olivet........unless Trine or Alma win at Hope or Calvin, Albion/Olivet could pull within a game of 4th place after Wednesday, then its interesting.

I wouldn't lose any sleep pondering about the reunion...

GreatScot!?

After watching the "travel" multiple times I think the awkwardness caused the travel call. It looks like he got the shot off before putting his right foot down. Regardless, even if it was a travel, it seemed that Blackledge bumped Gernaat and caused him to be off balance forcing up the shot to draw a foul. Maybe a no-call would've been the best course of action there. Didn't think the officiating was that bad and it was unreal how low the shooting percentages were.
