Not really a lot I can add that hasn't already been said, tremendous game and atmosphere tonight.  Really enjoyable to watch, validates a lot of the time and effort I put into watching all of this just because I like it. 

These ones are always tough to lose, hard not to get carried away with when you win them.  Congrats to the Knights and enjoy the tournament along with the Dutchmen.

Why is it a shame?  I know you're still high from a good exciting win, but there is much about KBS that drives many crazy. Enjoy the win, the discussion about KVS's future can be tabled for another day. After the high wears off.

Anyone else think that Tony Canonie should have won the league Defensive POY? Seemed like he was always guarding the other teams best player and seemingly shut them down.

After watching Canonie hold Dante Hawkins to 5 points last week, and frustrate Will Dixon tonight (6 of 18 shooting, with Canonie constantly in his face) I can see your point, Knight4Life. Tony Canonie was by far the best player scoring zero points in tonight's game.

I have to totally agree with this comment, which I did not get around to reading until this morning.  Hawkins showed just how good he is last night, but he was held down in the earlier game to just 5 points.  The other thing that I was reminded to see while looking at the all league first and second teams is that Hope had far better rated players at 4 out of 5 starting positions.  Calvin's win to a large extent came down to depth.  Even the coach in his comments acknowledged that the team does not have the most talented players ever.  But the depth, along with the attitude, made all the difference.  I was one of the few who still felt hopeful at halftime because I have seen all year what this group can do at the end of a game.  When it was even with minutes to go, I commented to the person next to me that the chances were much more likely that Calvin would win.  It wasn't that Hope even gave up and they still hit a 3 at a crucial time, but they gave some signs of just being worn out.  The expressions and intensity of the Calvin players near the end of the game said it all.

I agree with others that this was a terrific game, almost a renewal of the great Rivalry games from the past. Wonderful atmosphere with both teams competing hard and--for the most part--quite well. Some games your opponent gives you the win and some games you just snatch it away. Tonight was the latter for Calvin who looked to me to just have a little more gas in the tank down the stretch. Outstanding clutch free throw shooting with the Knights going 18-19 the second 20 minutes. After getting outboarded the first half, Calvin dominated the paint in the second, including 10 offensive boards after the break. Other game notes:

--You won't see Cam Denney play under control for a full game very often but he did tonight. A very quiet and efficient 21 points, 8 points and 4 assists with few mistakes. His well timed, under control, step-in three ball with 2:30 left was the biggest shot of the game and created about as loud a roar from a Calvin crowd as you will ever hear at DeVos.

--Blackledge is a load to guard but it seemed Hope struggled even more with Welch who was money down the stretch in a pressure packed game.

--Dante Hawkins is a warrior, playing the full 40, but I thought he tired late. Siegel, who was sick yesterday also looked tired but Mike did hit an important second half triple.

--Tony DeWitte was also quietly efficient, getting a patient 14 points and grabbing five important rebounds.

--Not a lot of mistakes by either team. Calvin with 8 turnovers and Hope just 7. Quite a contrast from last Saturday's game.

--I'll leave it to goodknight to remind Calvin fans of Bosko's prescient comment in December.

When Calvin defeated Carthage early in the season, the longtime CCIW coach, Bosko Djurickovic, gave a shockingly positive endorsement of the Calvin team, which had started the non-conference portion of the schedule poorly.  In his post-game interview, Bosko asserted, "Calvin is a good team.  They will finish with 17, 18, 19 wins." Calvin fans might have thought Bosco was already deep into the flask of Slivovitz on that late November evening, but he evidently saw something that escaped most of the rest of us.

I do not think there was anything close to a fist. He was trying to block out Blackledge after a switch but I didn't see anything other than a couple guys trying to play hard. I didn't even really see an errant elbow or anything.

I agree.  It looked very much like the inside battle that characterized most of the 2nd half.  Yes, Blackledge could have been called for a foul but I certainly didn't see anything that looked remotely close to an intent to harm.
