Congrats to the Hope men--and women. The Flying Dutch beat the defending national champs on their home floor, breaking Thomas More's 60 game win streak. Or 90. Or whatever. It's a long one.

Had to look that up:  Hope ended TMC's 94-game winning streak . . . 2nd only to U Conn.  Wow--that was the more stunning result tonight.

Love your expression, HopeConvert, of the pure joy experienced by Cody and those who shared it with him.  Also, how good of Coach Mitchell to seize the moment, by subbing him (alone) out with seconds left, to allow the crowd and his teammates to celebrate him and his feat.

Thomas More had not lost since the 2014 tourney.  How you count their win streak depends on whether you go with actual results or NCAA counting.  Their entire season in 2014-15 was vacated because an assistant coach gave housing to Sydney Moss while she was recuperating from an injury which made her own housing essentially unreachable.  Since she still paid rent on her own housing during the time, and babysat the assistant coach's kids in return for her housing, I think this was the most ridiculous NCAA penalty since they made Steve Alford sit out the game against Kentucky for posing for a sorority calendar for charity - at that time (at least) Kentucky was the most penalized program in NCAA history.

I think everyone should put their in-conference rival aside when it comes to national championships. A win for a team in the conference displays to the entire d3 Nation how strong your conference is!

I disagree.  I just don't understand this.  I am a Calvin fan and will never root for hope, no matter what.  I have always rooted for my team over my conference.  I love DIII hoops, I love the MIAA, I can't root for hope.  I don't ever want them to get a DIII Championship banner, honestly, how would this make a Calvin fan proud?

(modified by GS for formatting)

That is a terrible attitude! As a Christian, I feel we should be supporting each other, not hating each other. Calvin is my (Hope's) eternal rival. But that does NOT mean I wish them ill will! That is neither sportsmanship, nor a Christian attitude.

I will always root for another MIAA team if they are not playing against Hope.  Good for the league, usually good for regional rankings, and therefore good for Hope too.  Nor would I wish ill for any other league team, even a Rival.

Absolutely spectacular night at the DeVos Fieldhouse! One of the great performances by a Hope player and team in the NCAA's! It is truly remarkable to see what seniors can do in these kinds of win or go home scenarios.... Cheers Cody! HopeConvert, you nailed it in putting his name next to Will Bowser and Stephen Cramer... These performances will forever be remember by those who were in the the building!

Overall though, the Dutchmen scraped and clawed on the defensive end and remained hot for the second night in a row on the offensive side! Great team performance! Also, with all this student section talk... I will tip my cap to the Dew Crew for finally showing up and bringing some noise tonight! Cheers and thanks for the Dew!

The dragons of '07 and '08 have be slayed... Might we have the opportunity to slay another... Augustana's home court in Rock Island?

What a funny conversation... Root for your rival... not a chance...

Glad we haven't heard the chant "Where's your banner" in a while... It is that very chant that makes me smile when Calvin bows out in the first round...

94-80 win by Hope over WashU. Stuive goes 10-11 from the arc and scores 37. That's all you need to know about the game. I'm guessing FDF will really enjoy that Twinburger and fries.

I'm very happy to pay off this bet. Very happy indeed.

It would be a cold-hearted person indeed who could not feel happy for Cody Stuive, who played the game of his life in what was likely his last game on his home floor. He had a dazed countenance at the end of the game, as if he himself could not believe what he had done. He also had a look of pure joy, which every Hope fan participated in vicariously. It ranks alongside Bowser's game against Augie and Cramer's game against Chicago as the finest tournament performances I have seen from a Hope player. It was a pleasure to watch.

I'll have to see if FDF likes ketchup and extra twin sauce.

I think you have to add Nate Snuggerud to your list of great NCAA games.  In 2012, he had 37 against Westminster on Friday night and 40 in the epic double OT game against IWU on Saturday.

Actually, no... TMC's 2014-15 season was completely vacated... so in reality, those 30+ games are not part of the winning stream.

Joel Holstege's 39 in the title game against Rowan in 96 is probably still the best given the circumstances and competition.

What a great weekend for Hope basketball, men and women.  For the men Hope's been dancing on that borderline between good and great for about 9 years.  After a tough stretch of either disappointing early exits or brutally tough gut wrenching losses from the tournament Hope basketball needed this weekend.  Really happy for everyone that has put so much time and effort purely for the love of what they do and see it rewarded with two really superb performances.  Don't mind saying I love living and dying with every shot.

Go Hope!

Especially since it was a spectacular performance two games in a row.  Still haven't been at a D3 game (or maybe any game) that had an atmosphere that matched that IWU game.
