Holland Sentinel article link below (typical HS - couple of sentences that are nonsensical, and they continue to use the word "one" in quotes where the person speaking is saying "won").

Anyway it does point out something interesting.  Hope has had 4 players this year have a 30 point game.  I suspect that is a pretty rare feat for a single season  - doubt any Hope team has ever had that occur in the past.

Is it time for the games to start yet?

Go Hope

Whatever happened to Leo Martinelli?   Or is he still around?
I believe you are referring to Leo Martonosi, former sports editor of the Holland Sentinal.  He had his finger on the pulse of Holland, Michigan, sports at all levels.  He retired from the Sentinel in 2009.

Leo was an abominable writer, but at least had institutional knowledge.

Leo.. a regular at the noon time Civic Center pick up basketball games... good memories... :D

Just curious... Does the anchor at center court look really weird to anyone else but me?  Must be a fluke....

This Wes McKinney character is a human highlight reel. I haven't seen someone string together so many sensational finishes at the rim in one half all season.

I still think that Hope is going to pull this one out, though.

Wes McKinney (who else?) hits a buzzer beater - Hanover wins 79-77 in a game that looked destined for OT.

McKinney hits a fallaway 18-footer off of an inbounds pass at the buzzer to give Hanover the 79-77 comeback win.

He had missed a layup attempt a few seconds earlier, but a Corey Muchmore putback tied the game at 77 with two seconds left. Cody Stuive was then called for what looked like an inbounds violation, turning the ball over to the Panthers and setting up the final-shot heroics for McKinney.

Heckuva game. Hawkins and Blackledge both had sensational games tonight for Hope.

There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

Rough day for Hope fans: both teams in Sweet Sixteen; neither team in Elite Eight.  And both had big second half leads.

I wouldn't call 11 points a big lead -- and that was only the Hope lead coming out of the locker room. Thereafter, the Dutch never led by more than ten, and for most of the second half it was in single digits.

Hope never put the Panthers into any sort of situation in which it felt like a make-or-break possession until the final half-minute. And at that point the Panthers had the momentum and the confidence that they could get to the rim at will against a Dutch defense that really got broken down badly off the dribble throughout the entire second stanza.

Was Stuive called for an inbounds violation, or did a Hanover defender deflect the inbounds pass back at him while he was out of bounds? It was impossible to tell from the live feed, and the replay kept cutting off before the play actually happened. The PBP guy never did make the call, other than to say that Stuive had turned it over.
